World of Hyatt COVID-19 updates

Hyatt has made a number of changes to their World of Hyatt program to accommodate safety and altered travel during the coronavirus pandemic. The changes are extensive, but here are a few of the biggest updates:

  • A more forgiving cancellation policy. Rooms booked after July 1 can be canceled at no charge up to 24 hours before the scheduled date.
  • Extended time to use awards. Unused awards set to expire Between March and December 31, 2020 can now be used until December 31, 2021.
  • Elite status extensions. Whatever your elite status was as of March 31, 2020, will not expire until February 28, 2020.
  • Award chart changes postponed. Hyatt originally planned to introduce peak and off-peak redemption values in March. They’ve since postponed this change for July 2021.

World of Hyatt lifetime status

Like the name suggests, the Lifetime Globalist status is an elite level you can earn permanently after earning 1,000,000 points in the World of Hyatt program. It confers the same benefits as the Globalist status, though you’ll no longer have to worry about the typical annual requirements.

Complimentary elite perks

Opening an account with The World of Hyatt Credit Card automatically grants you Discoverist status for as long as your credit card account is open. You’ll also get one night at a category 1 to 4 Hyatt hotel or resort on every card anniversary. And if you spend $15,000 on purchases within a year, you get an additional night in the same category hotels.

SLH perks

You can also receive perks at participating small luxury hotels (SLH) for membership. These perks are the same regardless of your status level and include:

  • Complimentary continental breakfast
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • One category room upgrade
  • Early check-in at 12:00pm
  • Late checkout at 2:00pm

Bottom line

While Hyatt properties don’t have quite the travel coverage as some other hotel brands, the diversity of hotels available, strong point value and solid membership perks could make the World of Hyatt program a worthy investment.

Apply for The World of Hyatt Credit Card to instantly receive Discoverist status and start receiving your improved perks right away. Or compare your hotel credit card options to learn more about other available hotel loyalty programs.
