The World of Hyatt rewards program has one of the strongest point values among the hotel rewards programs. The higher you move up in the elite tiers, the more access you’ll have to perks during your hotel and resort stays, and the more rewards points you’ll earn per dollar spent.
Hyatt has made a number of changes to their World of Hyatt program to accommodate safety and altered travel during the coronavirus pandemic. The changes are extensive, but here are a few of the biggest updates:
- Extended time to use awards. Unused free night, suite upgrade or club lounge access awards with expiration dates up to December 31, 2020 will be extended to December 31, 2021.
- Elite status extensions. Whatever your elite status was as of March 31, 2020, will not expire until February 28, 2022.
- Award chart changes postponed. Hyatt originally planned to introduce peak and off-peak redemption values in March. They’ve since postponed this change for July 2021.

Yes. Hyatt will close your account and your points will forfeit if your account is inactive for 24 months.

- Having an active Hyatt credit card associated with your account
There are many ways you can earn World of Hyatt points, but the bulk of your earning will come down to two activities: staying at eligible Hyatt properties and making purchases with eligible credit cards.
Using a credit card is one of the fastest ways to earn points since you can earn them whenever you’re making a purchase, not just during travel. For example, using The World of Hyatt Credit Card cobranded card, you can earn additional bonus points for every dollar spent on eligible Hyatt purchases on top of your membership earnings, as well as bonus points on dining, gym memberships and more.
For more ways to earn, check out our complete guide of how you can earn World of Hyatt points.
Hyatt’s cobranded card offers a straightforward way to earn bonus World of Hyatt points along with additional perks and benefits associated with your World of Hyatt membership. But if you’d rather not committ to a cobranded card, you have several great Chase options to choose from as well.
Redeeming your World of Hyatt points is as simple as logging into your World of Hyatt account and choosing Redeem at the top menu bar to start perusing your options. You can find out which redemption options are the best use of your points at our full World of Hyatt redemption guide.
Once you’ve registered a World of Hyatt account, you can start progressing through the program’s different elite tiers. Each status tier offers additional hotel perks at participating Hyatt locations, as well as a bonus to base points earned during stays.

Like the name suggests, the Lifetime Globalist status is an elite level you can earn permanently after earning 1,000,000 points in the World of Hyatt program. It confers the same benefits as the Globalist status, though you’ll no longer have to worry about the typical annual requirements.
Opening an account with The World of Hyatt Credit Card automatically grants you Discoverist status for as long as your credit card account is open. You’ll also get one night at a category 1 to 4 Hyatt hotel or resort on every card anniversary. And if you spend $15,000 on purchases within a year, you get an additional night in the same category hotels.
You can also receive perks at participating small luxury hotels (SLH) for membership. These perks are the same regardless of your status level and include:
- Complimentary continental breakfast
- Complimentary Wi-Fi
- One category room upgrade
- Early check-in at 12:00pm
- Late checkout at 2:00pm
While Hyatt properties don’t have quite the travel coverage as some other hotel brands, the diversity of hotels available, strong point value and solid membership perks could make the World of Hyatt program a worthy investment.
Apply for The World of Hyatt Credit Card to instantly receive Discoverist status and start receiving your improved perks right away. Or compare your hotel credit card options to learn more about other available hotel loyalty programs.
How can I extend Guest of Honor benefits to another member?
If you’re a Globalist member, you can extend these benefits to another member when you gift a free night award to them.
What is a Tier-Qualifying Night?
Any night you stay at a Hyatt hotel or resort or an M life Rewards destination and pay an Eligible Rate or redeem a free night award, provided you associate the reservation with your World of Hyatt number.
What is a base point?
Base points are any points that count toward your tier status. Bonus points do not count toward elevating your status.
