What is Tyl?

Founded in 2018, Tyl is a card payments provider that is backed by NatWest. It aims to help make card payments easier for businesses and customers and offers a quick and easy set-up process.

Tyl offers 4 different types of card readers to suit different business requirements. You can choose from an all-in-one card reader, a portable card reader, a countertop machine or a pocket card reader. Each has a different pricing plan.

Tyl also offers a loyalty programme that you can set up through your Tyl Portal. This enables customers of your business to earn points through Tyl when they shop with you. The more they visit your business and the more they spend, the more points they earn. You will be able to choose the reward for your customers, whether that’s a free coffee or complimentary hair treatment, whatever suits you and your business. You can also set the points threshold to earn this reward.

Our verdict

If you’re looking for a card reader for your business, Tyl offers a range of card readers to suit different business types. Whether you want a countertop card reader for a shop or you’re looking for something more portable, Tyl offers a solution. It also wins points for its loyalty programme.

However, the one big thing to watch out for is the cost. As well as monthly hire fees, there are also transaction fees to consider. It’s important to work out exactly how much a Tyl card reader could cost your business and compare it to other options out there before making your final decision.
