We’ve built a calculator that determines how long it’ll take you to save a million pounds, based on how much you currently have saved, how much you plan to save each month and the interest you hope to gain on your investments or via the interest rate on your savings account. Try it out to see if you could become a millionaire any time soon.
Best ways to budget to reach a million
According to our research into savings, the average adult in the UK had £16,067 in savings in 2025. Based on an interest rate of 2.62%, which is the average instant acacess savings rate in January 2025, the average Brit would save up to a million pounds by 2114 (so less than 100 years!). However, this does assume you never spend any of these savings on any big life purchases, such as buying a house or having a wedding.

Methodology
Finder analysts built the calculator by using a mathematical formula to calculate whether users will be able to save up to a million pounds within the next 200 years. This formula relies on the interest rate on users’ saving accounts, their monthly savings and their current savings amount.
