What is FreedomPop?

FreedomPop was founded in Los Angeles in 2011, and in 2015 the company announced its plans to expand internationally to the UK using Three’s network. Currently FreedomPop offers customers mobile phone services, wireless internet and home broadband.

What services do FreedomPop offer?

FreedomPop was founded in 2012. Currently FreedomPop offers mobile data plans from £3.49 a month to £19.99 a month, plus free calling and texting apps in the App Store and Google Play that work over wifi or cellular data.

You can use FreedomPop’s network calculator to check which FreedomPop networks are available in your local area. Simply enter in your postcode on the website or refer to their coverage map.

The company offers mobile plans that offer from 1GB a month up to 4GB.

How much does it cost?

FreedomPop’s monthly plans go from £3.49 (1GB) up to £19.99 (for 4GB). There are no contracts with FreedomPop and you can cancel your account any time.

How much data do I need?

The amount of data you require depends on how much internet you will be using on your mobile each month.

It is difficult to determine an exact correlation between data and internet usage but approximately 1GB would allow you to view either around 3000 web pages, 10 000 emails or spend 4 hours streaming videos.

What are some of FreedomPop’s pros and cons?

Advantages

  • Free calling apps. FreedomPop offers free calling apps from the App Store and Google Play.
  • All apps have a free call service. All three of the FreedomPop plans come with a free Premium Voice Service.
  • Network. FreedomPop runs off the award-winning Three network.

Considerations

  • Only SIM-only plans. FreedomPop only offers SIM only mobile plans to customers.
  • Low data plans. FreedomPop only offers a maximum of 4GB of data for the mobile plans.

So once I’ve activated the card for £0.01 or 1p and I want to choose the Basic 200 plan, what should I do?
