Expert review

The Iberia Visa Signature® card is an airline credit card with a $95 annual fee. It offers Avios on all purchases, as well as accelerated rewards on Iberia purchases and hotel accommodations.

Given the card’s rewards structure, this product is best suited for those who travel frequently — specifically, those who often fly Iberia. If this doesn’t describe you, consider picking a card that offers bonus rewards for non-travel expenses. For example, the stellar American Express® Gold Card offers accelerated rewards not only on eligible flights, but also at restaurants and US supermarkets.

The card offers a perk with a potentially narrow, but extremely valuable, use case. Each calendar year you make at least $30,000 in purchases on your card, you’ll get a $1,000 discount voucher towards two tickets on the same flight. This is essentially a 3.3% rewards rate provided you use the voucher to its full potential. Coupled with the rewards you’ll earn on all purchases, the card becomes a fantastic choice in this sense.

You’ll find another helpful benefit: a 10% discount on flights you book through Iberia’s designated Chase portal. Saving this amount on just one flight can go a long way toward helping you offset your card’s annual fee.

All in all, your biggest consideration for the card should be whether you can qualify for — and use — the $1,000 discount voucher. What’s more, the card stacks great value if you’re a frequent Iberia flyer. If these factors aren’t slam-dunks for you, look into one of the many excellent travel-card alternatives.

Card benefits

  • Signup bonus.
Spend $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening, and you’ll earn 50,000 Avios. If you spend $20,000 total in purchases within your first year of account opening, you’ll earn an additional 50,000 Avios.
  • Avios points.
Earn 3x points on Iberia purchases. Earn 2x Avios on hotel accommodations. Earn 1x points on everything else.
  • Discount voucher.
Spend $30,000 in a calendar year to earn a $1,000 discount voucher that you can use toward two tickets on the same flight.
  • No foreign transaction fees.
You’ll pay nothing in foreign transaction fees on purchases made abroad.
  • Other travel benefits.
Book Iberia flights on and get 10% off your purchases. Also, your card gives you car rental collision damage waivers and luggage insurance.

What to watch out for

  • Annual fee.
    You’ll pay a $95 annual fee.
  • Signup bonus eligibility.
If you already own this card, or have owned it and received a signup bonus in the last 24 months, you’ll be ineligible for the current signup bonus.
  • High taxes and fees on reward flights.
According to Chase website, you have to pay taxes and fees of $682 to $1,250 for economy flights or $1,250 for business class, based on travel from Seattle to London.
