The basics

The Credit One Bank® Unsecured Platinum Visa® is an unsecured card available to consumers with poor credit. When you apply, don’t worry about damaging your score because Credit One makes a soft pull to see if you pre-qualify. If you do, you can proceed with the application.

However, know that the card doesn’t clearly state your annual fee or whether you’ll get a grace period on your purchases before you qualify. Keep your eyes open and read the card’s terms before applying to avoid unpleasant situations.

The perks

  • Pre-qualification.

    You can see if you pre-qualify for the card without hurting your credit score.

  • Cash back.

    Based on your creditworthiness, you can get one of the four cashback reward programs:

    • 1.0% on gas, groceries, mobile phone service, Internet service and cable and satellite TV service;
    • 1.0% on gas, groceries, dining, mobile phone service, Internet service, and cable and satellite TV services;
    • 1.1% on dining and 1.0% on all other purchases;
    • 1.0% back on everything you buy.
  • Free credit score access.

    Track your credit-building efforts with a monthly access to your Experian credit score.

  • Potential credit line increase.

    Your account is automatically reviewed for a credit line increase.

You’ll also like…

  • Zero fraud liability.

    You won’t be held liable for any unauthorized charges that you report to Credit One.

  • Fraud monitoring.

    Credit One regularly monitors your account activity to prevent fraud. You also get an EMV chip card, which is hard to counterfeit.

  • Account notifications.

    Customize your account notifications, including payment reminders, transaction alerts, payment confirmations and more.

  • Digital wallet.

    Use Apple Pay wherever this is an accepted payment method.

  • Choose your due date.

    Pick your own due date. But it has to be at least six days before or after the original assigned date. You can change your due date once in six months.

What to watch out for

  • Annual fee.

    The card comes with an annual fee of $0 to $75 for the first year, depending on your creditworthiness. After that, it can be $0 to $99. Starting from the second year, some accounts will pay the annual each month, divided into 12 equal portions. Other accounts will be billed annually.

  • Authorized user card fee.

    Authorized user cards come with a $19 annual fee.

  • Grace period.

    Some accounts may get a 24-day grace period, while others won’t. This means Credit One starts charging interest from the moment you made your purchase.

  • High APR.

    Based on your creditworthiness, you’ll get a variable APR 19.99% to 25.99%. This is in line with similar credit-building cards.

  • Low minimum credit line.

    Your credit line depends on multiple factors, but with this card the minimum credit line you can get is $300.

  • Foreign transaction fee.

    For each transaction you make abroad in US dollars, pay either $1 or 3%, whichever is greater.
