If you’re a budget-minded traveler, then you’re likely familiar with Choice Hotels. The Choice Privilege loyalty program reinforces its status as a great hotel pick if you want rewards for your budget stays.
According to our April 2019 calculations, based on the Choice Privileges site, Choice Privileges points are worth about 0.6 cents a piece on average.
Yes. If your account remains inactive for 18 months, your points will be forfeit. You can keep your account active by earning or redeeming points at least once every 18 months.
There are two primary ways to earn Choice Privilege points: stay at eligible Choice hotels and make purchases using eligible credit cards.
Credit cards are a great way to kickstart your Choice Privileges rewards since many provide a sizable bonus point welcome offer you can earn. For example, the Choice Privileges® Visa Signature® Card lets you earn 50,000 bonus points when you spend $1,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of account opening.
On top of a direct way of earning bonus points to your account, the cobranded Choice Privileges® Visa Signature® Card also features additional benefits such as annual bonus point opportunities and complimentary elite status.
Amex Membership Rewards credit cards allow you to transfer points to your Choice Privileges account at a 1:1 ratio. Choosing an Amex card could be a better choice if you think you’ll earn more with the broader earning categories and you don’t mind passing on the perks of the Choice Privileges® Visa Signature® Card.
Including the base membership level, the Choice Privileges rewards program offers four elite status tiers you can earn, each offering improvements and perks to your account. To gain each elite status, you’ll need to book a specific number of Choice Hotel nights each calendar year.
Base | Gold | Platinum | Diamond | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Nights required | – | 10 nights | 20 nights | 40 nights |
A key reason to earn elite status is the increased point rewards you’ll earn during your stays. If you’re dedicated to Choice Hotels and stay with them often, you’ll want to earn Diamond for the most value.
Base | Gold | Platinum | Diamond | |
---|---|---|---|---|
Bonus points | – | 10% | 25% | 50% |
If you have elite status in another hotel rewards program, Choice Hotels will match your status to their closest equivalent. For eligibility, you’ll need to email your name, Choice Privileges member number and proof of status of the other hotel program to status_match@choicehotels.com.
With great hotel coverage and plenty of opportunities to earn points and free nights, Choice Privileges is a strong contender if you’re a regular traveler looking for rewards from this budget-friendly hotel chain. If you earn enough points, you’ll be able to treat yourself to a stay at one of their higher-end properties.
If you rarely stay at Choice hotels, compare other hotel credit cards to find one that suits your travel schedule.
