Released in its first form in 2002, the Aveo was initially produced by Daewoo and sold as the Daewoo Kalos. In 2007, Chevrolet’s remodelled Kalos arrived on the roads, now being marketed as the Aveo. The facelifted Aveo model was designed specifically to provide an efficient, stylish, and comfortable hatchback for the ordinary driver.

Average insurance rates for a Chevrolet Aveo

We aggregated quotes from several well-known insurance companies, indicating that comprehensive insurance for a Chevrolet Aveo comes to an approximate sum of £34.86 per month, or a single annual payment of £367.06. This places the Aveo in the middle of our price range for cars in the subcompact vehicle class.

We used the following bits of information to aggregate our quotes:

  • Our driver was identified as a thirty-year-old male teacher from Exeter, looking to insure a 2018 model Chevrolet Aveo.
  • Our Aveo was identified as a right-hand-drive non-import model.
  • The driver kept to the national average of 10,000 miles per year.
  • In terms of modifications, the car was only fitted with the factory standard alarms and immobilisers. There were no other modifications or tracking devices placed on the vehicle.
  • The car is parked in a car park during working hours and kept on a driveway at the driver’s home during the night.
  • The driver maintained a good credit history, a five-years no-claims discount, and five years with no driving convictions. They also had no history of non-motoring criminal convictions.
  • The type of cover we requested was comprehensive.
  • There was only one driver specified on the insurance policy.

What factors affect my insurance rates?

Not everybody has the same insurance rate. Insurance companies take into account a wide variety of factors, some specific to the driver, in order to generate a personalised quote that’s right for you. We’ve compiled a list of some of the top factors that can sway your insurance rate and, later on, offered some advice about how you can make sure your premiums are lower.

  • What is your specific situation? Insurers will need to take into account your age, sex, marital status, and geographical location in order to get a broad sense of how safe an insurance investment you are. If you live in an area with a high rate of traffic collisions, for instance, you may find that your premiums are higher-than-average.
  • The transmission of your vehicle is also a determinant. Our research indicates you’d be expected to pay approximately £17.59 more for an automatic model each year rather than the manual equivalent.
  • Insurers take careful consideration of your credit history, no-claims discount and history of convictions, both motoring and otherwise.
  • How secure is your vehicle? Insurance companies will want to know whether or not the car is secured with safety features, or parked in an unsecure area.

How can I save on my insurance premiums?

Luckily for you, we’ve aggregated some of the top ways you can avoid these issues and save on your car insurance.

  • Try to maintain a good credit rating and a clean history of no-claims and no-convictions. If insurers deem you a more secure investment, you may be rewarded with lower premiums.
  • Have you considered paying for your premiums annually rather than monthly? Our research suggests you could save approximately £51.23 if you make the switch, every year.
  • Consider reducing the amount you drive if you find that your mileage regularly exceeds the national average of 10,000 miles per year. Insurers will look more favourably on drivers who drive below the average.
  • Safety and security features are always a plus when it comes to keeping your premiums low. While the Aveo is naturally a safe vehicle, insurers certainly wouldn’t penalise you if you chose to invest in features that enhance its safety and security, such as tracking device technology.

About the Chevrolet Aveo

  • The Aveo was remarketed and sold as the Chevrolet Sonic in most regions of the world in 2012.
  • Ondrej Koromhaz, the designer of the Aveo, has since stated that his goal when designing the vehicle was to create a ‘four-seat motorcycle’ in a comment on the Aveo’s compact and efficient nature.
  • The Aveo is available in the UK from average starting prices of £10,570.
  • With the back seats in place, the Aveo offers a boot capacity of 290 litres. With the rear seats folded, this increases to 653 litres of space.

Safety and the Chevrolet Aveo

When it comes to the Chevrolet Aveo and safety ratings, calm down – there’s no need to worry! Euro NCAP, commonly regarded as the ‘gold standard’ of crash testing, granted the vehicle a perfect rating of five stars, although offering criticism for the Aveo’s treatment of pedestrians during a crash.

The Aveo offers multiple airbags, a seat belt reminder and speed assistance as standard, although for extra expense you can invest in additional safety and security packages that enhance the vehicle, including tracking devices and other technologies.
