Expert review

The SunTrust Travel Rewards Credit Card is an excellent mid-tier travel option with an intro $0 annual fee for the first year, a long 0% intro APR period on balance transfers and a solid $250 signup bonus. Plus you get a $100 statement credit once every five years to cover for your TSA PreCheck or Global Entry application fee.

What’s more, you get to earn 3% unlimited cash back on travel purchases and 2% back on dining. You get an additional 10%, 25% or 50% cash bonus if you have a deposit or investment balance at a SunTrust account of between $0 and $100,000 and you deposit your cash back in these accounts. This can effectively turn your 3% cash back on travel into 4.5%, beating the rewards rate of many high-end credit cards.

The only downside is you have to live in one of the states where SunTrust operates:
• Alabama
• Arizona
• Florida
• Georgia
• Maryland
• Mississippi
• North Carolina
• South Carolina
• Tennessee
• Virginia
• West Virginia
• Washington, D.C.

If you live in another state and you aren’t eligible to apply for this card, consider similar travel credit cards.
