Types of Credit One credit cards

Credit One cards for building credit

All Credit One cards are designed for building credit. But if you have a slightly higher credit score, you get access to higher rewards and lower fees.

Typical benefits
  • Lower approval requirements. You can get approval for most of these credit cards if you have a bad or fair credit score.
  • Cash back. Depending on the card you choose and your credit score at the time of card approval, you can earn cash back either on all purchases or on select categories.
  • Potential for no annual fee. This is another feature that depends on your credit score — the higher your score, the lower the annual fee you’ll pay.
  • Credit score monitoring. Access your Experian credit score for free and track your credit-building progress.

Credit One cashback credit cards

Depending on your credit score, you can earn cash back with all Credit One credit cards. The higher your score, the better your cashback rate will be.

Typical benefits
  • High cashback rate on select categories. Some Credit One credit cards let you earn accelerated cash back on select categories, such as groceries, gas or NASCAR purchases.
  • Additional cashback opportunities. Some participating merchants let you earn up to 10% cash back on your purchases. If you get the American Express card, you get to access Amex Offers where you can earn additional cash back.
  • No annual fee. If you have a good credit score or higher, it’s likely you’ll get the card without paying an annual fee.

Typical features and benefits of a Credit One card

  • High interest rates. Before applying for a Credit One card, look closely at its purchase APR. The bank’s products come with higher-than-average interest rates, between 20% and 27% variable. If you’re applying with a poor credit, chances are you’ll get an APR on the higher end.
  • Rewards uncertain. Some Credit One credit cards may come with a certain rewards rate based on your credit profile. If you have poor credit, Credit One’s cards could be one of the rare rewarding options you can get.
  • Range of annual fees. You may receive an annual fee between $0 and $99 based on your credit. With poor credit, expect to pay an annual fee.
  • Grace period uncertain. You may or may not receive an interest grace period on purchases. If you have poor credit, chances are you may not get a grace period. This makes your purchases more expensive if you can’t pay off your balance fast.
  • No balance transfers. Credit One does not allow you to transfer debt from other sources to your credit card.
  • Slow payments. Some Credit One credit card reviewers claim to have difficulties with paying their balance on time because of Credit One’s slow payment processing. This means more fees for you.

Credit One rewards program

Depending on the Credit One card and your creditworthiness, you may or may not get cashback rewards. For some of the cards, you won’t know in advance which categories you’ll receive cash back for.
