To get the best value, consider which hotel brands you frequently visit and whether the perks outweigh the annual fee.
Aside from earning card-specific perks, all Chase hotel credit cards offer:
Even though the Chase Freedom credit cards are marketed as cashback cards, they earn points within the Chase Ultimate Rewards program. These are the same points that both the Sapphire and the Ink business cards earn.
The cool thing about the program is that you can redeem your points for hotel stays via the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal. This is especially valuable if you own a Sapphire Reserve or a Sapphire Preferred card, which not only gives you a 50% and 25% higher points value, but you can also transfer your points at a 1:1 ratio to IHG hotels and resorts, World of Hyatt and Marriott hotels.
It may be more worth it to redeem your Chase points via the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal instead of transferring points to partner hotels.
Based on our calculations, you get an average of 1.2 cents per point when you redeem your Chase Ultimate Rewards points for IHG, World of Hyatt or Marriott hotels. You get an average value of 0.7 cents per point if you transfer points to either of these hotel reward programs. The odd one here is World of Hyatt, where in some cases you could get a value of 1.7 cents per point.
The IHG rewards program offers two credit cards to help you earn points on your purchases:
Once you earn enough points, you can redeem for hotel stays, shopping, cash and more. The highest redemption value goes to IHG stays where you typically get between 0.6 and 0.7 cents per point.
Unlike other reward programs, IHG doesn’t provide an award chart. Instead, you can visit the IHG website, select miles and browse their properties. Hotel redemption starts from 10,000 points and up to 70,000 points.
To find out the value of each hotel, divide the regular cash price for one night stay with the number of points required. For example $250/40,000 points = 0.006. This means you get a 0.6 cents value per point. The higher the number, the more valuable your points.
World of Hyatt offers only one credit card: the World of Hyatt Credit Card. This is a solid card that lets you earn up to 9x points on Hyatt purchases, which can get a value of between 0.8 cents apiece to 1.7 cents, depending on the hotel and room type. This is way above the competitor hotel reward programs where the value of points rarely goes above 1 cent.
