The Byron Bank Visa® Gold Credit Card is a rewards card offered by the Illinois-based community bank Byron Bank. In terms of features, it travels light: It earns 1x points on all eligible purchases, carries no annual fee and has a variable APR of 12.4%.
The biggest selling point of the Bryon Bank Visa Gold is the low interest rate and fees. The card’s 12.4% variable APR is quite low compared to the market average of 16%. This rate applies to balance transfers and cash advances as well, which is somewhat unusual in the world of credit cards. The card also charges just 1%% in foreign transaction fees, up to just $25 on late payments and no fees on over-the-limit charges.
Unfortunately, the card’s rewards come up short compared to the competition. You’ll earn just 1x point per dollar spent, which lags behind the rewards offered by other flat reward cards on the market. Rewards are also handled through a separate company, “Rewards!”, which complicates the redemption process more than you’d experience with a major provider.
If you’re an Illinois local and want a card that’s light on fees, the Byron Bank Visa® Gold Credit Card isn’t a bad choice. However, there are plenty of strong options on the market that are also low on fees while delivering bigger rewards and a more user-friendly experience.
Byron Bank only accepts applications for the Visa Gold Credit Card in person at one of its branches or over the phone. To apply in person, you can do the following.

Few consumer reviews exist for the Byron Bank Visa Gold card and as of November 2021, Byron Bank has no reviews or rating from the Better Business Bureau. Similarly, the bank is not yet listed on Trustpilot.
The Byron Bank Visa® Gold Credit Card is a reasonable pick if you’re located in the Illinois area and want a card with low fees and a low APR. However, if you’re looking for a rewards credit card, you’ll find more valuable options from the major players on the market.
