How to compare credit cards for young professionals

With so many credit cards to choose from, it may feel overwhelming. To make the search for the best card for you easier, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Annual fee. Credit card annual fees range from $0 to more than $500. Typically, the more expensive the card, the more benefits it offers. But there are some excellent no-annual-fee cards — like the Chase Freedom Flex℠ — that rival even expensive ones. Whichever card you choose, make sure you can squeeze out a higher value than what you pay for it.
  • Rewards. This one’s a no-brainer really — get the card that earns the highest rewards on categories where you spend most. If you spend money on multiple categories, consider combining two or more credit cards.
  • Intro APR period. Sometimes rewards are not the most important thing for your financial situation, and that’s okay. This is especially true for anyone looking to make a large purchase and pay it off without interest for a long period of time. Luckily, most of these types of cards also offer rewards.

Bottom line

Young professionals can choose cards with rewards on travel, transportation, dining and entertainment, and more. But if none of these cards seem appealing enough, compare other credit cards until you find the best card for your situation.
