What we like about Wells Fargo Clear Access Banking

For starters, Wells Fargo is an old and established bank in the US, with an estimated asset size of over $2 trillion in 2026. And of course, Wells Fargo has FDIC insurance on its deposit accounts.

Once your Clear Access Banking account is open, you can take advantage of several benefits.

Option for teens or second-chance banking

If the primary account holders is between 13 and 24 years old, there are no monthly fees. It could be a great first bank account for a teen or students. However, once they turn 25, they no longer qualify for the fee waiver and will have to pay $5 a month.

Additionally, Clear Access Banking is advertised as a second-chance bank account. Basically, if you’ve struggled to open a bank account because of a poor banking history, this account is designed to be accessible despite a rough banking history.

Fee waivers and no overdraft fees

Any purchase that brings the account balance below $0 is automatically denied, so there are no overdraft or NSF fees to worry about.

And if you don’t qualify to waive the monthly fee because you’re over the age 24, then no worries, because there are other methods to waive the fee:

  • $250 or more in total qualifying electronic deposits
  • A qualifying monthly non-civilian military direct deposit with the Wells Fargo Worldwide Military Banking program

24/7 customer support

Wells Fargo offers online banking and bill pay customer service line that’s open 24/7.

Wells Fargo has other customer service lines with various hours, including existing account support Monday through Saturday, online services and online support Monday through Saturday, and the ability to email support for various reasons.

What could be better

There are a few drawbacks to consider.

First, unlike most checking accounts, Wells Fargo Clear Access Banking doesn’t support check-writing capabilities. Second, if your looking to get this account for a teen between the ages of 13 and 17, you and your child must visit a local branch to open this account. Anyone 18 or older can open the account online.
