The basics

This can be an ideal card for those who often stay at Hyatt hotels and resorts. Not only will you earn accelerated points — which are worth more than what you can earn with competitor cards — but you will also earn accelerated points at restaurants, on fitness and gym memberships, airline tickets and local transit.

Furthermore, you can earn a reward night each year if you spend a given amount annually with this card. This benefit can easily offset the annual fee that you’ll have to pay for the card.

The perks

  • Reward points.
Earn 4x bonus points at all Hyatt hotels when using your card — and get an additional 5x base points just by being a World of Hyatt member for a total of 9x points. You also earn 2x points on fitness club and gym memberships, local transit and commuting purchases, at restaurants and on airline tickets purchased directly from the airline. On all other purchases, earn 1x points.
  • Signup bonus.
Spend $3,000 on purchases in the 3 months following your account opening and get 25,000 bonus points. If you spend an additional $3,000 on purchases in the first 6 months, you’ll earn an another 25,000 bonus points — for a total of 50,000. As of December 2018, the Hyatt rewards website lists that point redemption for hotel stays starts at 5,000 points for a category 1 hotel and up to 30,000 points for a category 7 hotel.
  • Earn a reward night each year.
Get one night at a category 1–4 Hyatt hotel or resort on every card anniversary. And if you spend $15,000 on purchases within a year, you get an additional night in the same category hotels.

How much rewards can I earn with The World of Hyatt Credit Card?

Where you spendHow much you spendTotal points
Hyatt hotels and resorts$6,00054,000
Restaurants$4,0008,000
Airlines$4,0008,000
Local transit and commuting$5001,000
Fitness and gym membership$8001,600
Everything else$3,0003,000
Total$18,30075,600

Let’s say your annual spending is similar to our example. If you clear the entire signup bonus, you would earn a total of 125,600 Hyatt points for your first year. Points are generally worth between 1 to 2 cents. This means your points earned during your first year minus the annual fee can be worth up to $2,600. Or if you redeem at a category 1 hotel, you can get up to 27 nights.

If your spending continues this way, from the second year, after you pay your annual fee you’ll earn points valued at up to $1,500. Also, you’ll get two nights at a hotel worth between $300 and $600, depending on the property you redeem your points for.

How much do I have to spend to make the annual fee worth it?

The card has a $95 annual fee. This means, you’ll need to spend between $1,000 and $2,500 at Hyatt hotels to offset the fee. But in reality, the reward night you get every year offsets the fee by itself.

You’ll also like …

  • Elite status.
Enjoy Elite Discoverist status just by being a card member. This gives you additional perks like daily complimentary bottled water, room upgrades when available, late checkout at participating locations and more.
  • No foreign transaction fee.
When you travel abroad you won’t pay any foreign transaction fees for using your card. Other cards have fees up to 3% of each transaction.
  • Visa concierge.
The card comes with a complimentary Visa Signature concierge service available 24/7. This can help you get the perfect gift for a loved one, dinner reservations, tickets to sports and entertainment events and more.
  • High minimum credit line.
Chase determines your credit line based on several factors — but with this card, you won’t get a lower credit line than $5,000.

What to watch out for

  • Annual fee.
The card costs $95 annually. However, the annual reward night you get on your card anniversary can be worth between $100 and $300. This alone offsets the fee and makes every other feature an additional reward.
  • Signup bonus eligibility.
You’re not eligible to get the signup bonus if you already own a Hyatt Credit Card, or if you owned a Hyatt Credit Card and received a signup bonus in the last two years.
  • No intro APR period.
Travel rewards credit cards usually have high APR and have no intro APR period. The World of Hyatt Credit Card is no exception. You may want to look for a 0% intro APR card if you want to consolidate your debt.
