In the ever-growing cashless society, card readers are a must-have for any business. With the insights that the pandemic brought, it is clear that card readers are a vital part of keeping business payments running. From small market-stand merchants to full-service restaurants, there are now card readers to suit your every business’s needs.

The Zettle Reader 2 (launched as the iZettle in 2011) is an award-winning card reader that allows small-medium businesses to take payments on the go or docked into a professional set-up. In 2018 PayPal bought the Zettle Reader and after its success, it launched the Zettle Payment Terminal in 2021.

The card machines allow businesses to take payments in a user-friendly and dynamic way with and without the additional pairing of the Zettle Go app. Find out more about the Zettle card readers below:

Our verdict

If you’re looking for an ergonomic and fairly priced card reader, Zettle by PayPal has 2 great options depending on your business’s needs. The light and compact Zettle Reader 2 is a good option for small businesses that need to take payments on-the-go. In comparison, the sleek, all-in-one Zettle Payment Terminal could be more suited for businesses that have a professional set-up, for example a small-medium food or shop service. Both Zettle card readers are fairly priced and take payments from a variety of card networks (including American Express).

However, many reviewing customers have complained that their accounts had been frozen after being flagged for suspicious activity, impacting transactions taking place. If you are at the research stage or are ready to order a card reader, make an informed decision with our comparison table.
