Only two platforms we checked currently confirm paying you to watch videos.
We checked eight platforms directly against their own sites and apps. Only two actually pay you to watch videos: InboxDollars, confirmed on its own site, and Nielsen, which works differently — it pays you for letting it passively track your normal viewing rather than for choosing what to watch. The other six, including Swagbucks (which discontinued its video feature in 2022), are legitimate platforms that just don’t currently pay for video. YouTube, Netflix and TikTok don’t pay viewers either. Full details below.
Features
InboxDollars leads with video-watching as its core pitch, its homepage tagline is “Watch TV. Earn Rewards.” The site describes the mechanic as earning virtual scratch-offs, which unlock cash and other prizes, for watching videos and TV content on your smartphone or laptop.
How you earn: Watch videos and TV content through the InboxDollars site or app; doing so unlocks virtual scratch-offs redeemable for cash and prizes.
Earning potential: Not confirmed on InboxDollars’ own site. Third-party reviews estimate active users earn roughly $15 to $55 a month, though real-world tests have found much lower rates, one reviewer clocked about $1 an hour including bonuses. Treat these as outside estimates, not a company-published figure.
Signup bonus: $5 for creating a free account.
Payout methods: PayPal, cash, electronic gift cards (Amazon, Walmart, Target and others) or a donation to a charity such as the Animal Humane Society or the Red Cross.
Payment schedule: InboxDollars says payments are processed every Wednesday, with more than 15,000 members paid weekly.
Worth knowing: Founded in 2000 and owned by Prodege, LLC. InboxDollars says it has paid members more than $80 million since launch. Its site doesn’t post a minimum cash-out amount or a per-video earnings figure, so don’t expect either to be predictable going in.
Nielsen, the company behind TV ratings, runs panels that pay you for letting Nielsen anonymously measure what you watch and how you use your devices.
How you earn: Install Nielsen’s app or connect a device, Nielsen tracks your normal viewing and browsing rather than having you pick videos to watch.
Earning potential: Nielsen’s own Computer & Mobile Panel FAQ says mobile panelists can earn up to $50 in points over a year of active participation, plus monthly and quarterly incentives. Computer panelists are automatically entered into a monthly $10,000 sweepstakes with more than 500 winners, with a $500 top prize.
Payout: Nielsen’s own FAQ pages (more.nielsen.com and its Computer & Mobile Panel site) describe rewards as points or tokens redeemable for gift vouchers/cards, and mention scratch-off or spin-the-wheel style games as an additional way to use tokens.
Worth knowing: This is a fundamentally different mechanic from InboxDollars, you’re being paid for your data and habits, not for actively choosing what to watch.
A number of other names come up constantly in searches for “get paid to watch videos.” We checked each provider’s own homepage directly to see if video-watching was actually one of their earning methods, and couldn’t confirm it for any of the following:
None of this means these platforms are illegitimate — most are real, established rewards apps. They just don’t pay for watching videos specifically, based on what’s on their own sites.
| InboxDollars | Nielsen | |
|---|---|---|
| How you earn | Watch videos/TV to unlock virtual scratch-offs | Install a panel app or connect a device; get paid for your normal viewing, not for picking videos |
| Available on | Website, iOS app, Android app | Panel-specific apps and device connections (varies by panel) |
| Cost to join | Free | Free |
| Signup bonus | $5 | Not published on-site |
| Payout methods | PayPal, cash, gift cards, charity donation | Points/tokens redeemable for gift vouchers or gift cards |
| Cash-out minimum | Not published on-site | Not published on-site |
| Payment schedule | Processed every Wednesday | Not published on-site |
| Parent company | Prodege, LLC | Nielsen |
Nielsen works differently from InboxDollars: you’re not choosing what to watch to earn, you’re being compensated for letting Nielsen measure your existing viewing and device habits. Where a row says “not published on-site,” that’s a real gap in what the company discloses publicly.
Get-paid-to-watch-video sites attract a lot of copycats and outright scams. A few checks worth running before you sign up for any platform, not just the ones on this page:
It’s worth being direct about this because it’s a common search: YouTube, Netflix, TikTok and other streaming platforms don’t pay you for watching content. Creators can earn money from views through ad revenue and platform programs, but viewers don’t. If you’re looking to make money around video specifically, that route runs through creating content, not consuming it.
If you’re already going to have a video playing in the background — folding laundry, commuting on transit, waiting for something else — plugging into InboxDollars costs nothing and adds a small amount of extra cash over time. InboxDollars doesn’t publish numbers that let you predict how much that adds up to, so treat it as background income for time you’re already spending half-watching something, not a plan for real money.
