Top 5 hand tool brands made in the USA

Channellock

Meadville, Pennsylvania

All Channellock pliers are made in the USA — including its linesman’s, long nose, long reach, tongue and groove, cutting and slip joint models. Most screwdrivers, wire strippers and other specialty tools are also made in the USA.

But many of the brand’s wrenches are manufactured overseas. “A select number of Channellock tools are imported as needed, only after passing Channellock, Inc’s highest standards of quality,” according to the brand’s website.

Snap-on

Kenosha, Wisconsin

Headquartered in Wisconsin, Snap-On has 10 manufacturing facilities in the US spanning from California to New Hampshire. A large portion of the brand’s hand tools, power tools and famous toolboxes are made in the USA.

For a full list of products that are manufactured in America, go to the Snap-On website and view its product catalog. Each product lists the country of origin.

Estwing

Rockford, Illinois

Estwing prides itself on offering a wide selection of high-quality hand tools. Nearly all products currently available are made in the USA, including nail hammers, axes, machetes, hatchets, roofing tools, pry bars and even gold pans. A few select products — fiberglass hammers, ball-peen hammers and deadblow hammers — are not made in the US.

Klein

Lincolnshire, Illinois

A leading name in electricians’ hand tools, Klein manufactures the majority of its tools right here in the USA. The company currently operates seven US plants located in Illinois, Arkansas, Iowa, Texas and New York.

Select products are made in other countries, but Klein states on its website that it is committed to manufacturing as many tools as possible in America. The brand also claims that it “has never closed a manufacturing facility in the United States and sent jobs overseas,” and it has “no intention of doing so in the future.”

Lenox

East Longmeadow, Massachusetts

Known for its saw blades, hole saws, hand tools and power tool accessories, Lenox still manufactures the majority of its products at its Massachusetts plant. However, some items that are manufactured in America use globally sourced materials. If this is the case, it’s usually indicated directly on the product.

Top 4 power tool brands made in the USA

DeWalt

Baltimore, Maryland

This major power tool brand has started focusing on American-made products in recent years. Since 2016, DeWalt has made over 400 million products in its seven manufacturing facilities in the US. The company notes that many of its American-made products are manufactured in the USA using global products.

Stanley Black & Decker

New Britain, Connecticut

Not every Stanley Black & Decker tool is currently made in America, but many new models are or will be in the future. The company currently operates 44 manufacturing facilities across the US, with its most recent addition located in Fort Worth.

Stanley Black & Decker has also announced plans to increase manufacturing across all of these US facilities, creating more jobs and offering a wider selection of American-made products.

Craftsman

New Britain, Connecticut

Acquired by Stanley Black & Decker in 2017, Craftsman tools are no longer owned by Sears. While most older Craftsman tools have been manufactured overseas, newer models are beginning to be produced in the US. Look out for select new models of Craftsman tools manufactured in America in the coming years.

IQ Power Tools

Perris, California

IQ Power Tools specializes in masonry, concrete and construction tools such as masonry saws, dry cut tile saws, power cutters with integrated dust collection and more. Select products from this brand are made in the USA — look for the “made in the USA” seal on the product page.

How to tell if a tool is made in the USA

Most tool brands that manufacture their products in the USA are proud to display “Made in USA” stickers, seals and logos on the product itself, as well as on the product page online. If you don’t see this information, you can also look in the product specifications for the country of origin.

Some products also list whether or not it is imported. If you’re still not sure, contact the manufacturer directly to inquire about a specific product.

Many popular tool brands no longer manufacture their products in the US. These are a few of the most popular brands that do not offer American-made options:

  • Hart. While most Hart tools are designed in USA, they’re manufactured overseas.
  • Milwaukee. Most, if not all, of Milawukee’s tools are made overseas. There’s some speculation online that a few select hand tools might be American-made, but we’re awaiting confirmation from the company.
  • Husky. All Husky tools used to be made in the USA, but now nearly all production takes place in China and Taiwain.
