The AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card is not a credit card, which means it doesn’t provide a line of credit. Instead, you load your own money onto the card through direct deposit, with a third-party service or in person at a retail storefront. You can then use your AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card for purchases and to access your cash at ATMs displaying the Visa logo.

If you’re wary of rigorous credit checks and fees that typically come with a bank account, the AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card could be a solution. Though they work like bank-issued debit cards, AccountNow prepaid cards are an alternative to checking accounts and check-cashing services. You load money onto your prepaid card to make purchases anywhere that Visa is accepted or withdraw cash from ATMs nationwide. If you typically use a check-cashing service, AccountNow claims that it can save you more than $250 a year with direct deposit of your paycheck into your AccountNow account.

Other than a $4.95 activation fee, cardholders won’t pay fees for overdrafts, bounced checks or direct deposits. Loading your card is simple through direct deposit or third-party money transfer services.

Features

  • Checking account alternative.
The AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card is similar to a debit card in that you can withdraw cash and make purchases with it. Simply preload the card with any amount of money you choose.
  • Direct deposit.
Ask your employer to send your paycheck or benefits to the card through direct deposit at no charge.
  • Large withdrawal network.
The AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card works at more than 1 million ATMs worldwide. Or avoid ATM fees by using it as a debit card for cash back at your local grocery store.
  • Protection against fraud.
Cardholders are protected by Visa’s Zero Liability and are not responsible for unauthorized transactions if they’re reported within two business days. Funds on the card are also FDIC insured for up to $250,000.

Benefits of the AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card

  • Poor credit accepted.
The AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card isn’t a credit card, which means it doesn’t require a credit check.
  • Easy approval.
Simply provide ID for successful verification — no strict financial and credit requirements.
  • No traditional bank fees.
You won’t pay overdraft, bounced check or monthly fees. And there are no charges for direct deposit or cash deposit.
  • No minimum balance.
Many checking and savings accounts require a minimum monthly balance. But the AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card is free from such requirements.

What to watch out for

  • Other fees.
With the AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card, you’ll pay a fee for nearly all offered services — including:
ServiceFee

Visa purchases requiring a signature$1 per transaction
Debit purchases requiring a PIN$1 per transaction
ATM withdrawals$2.50 per transaction
Balance inquiries at ATMs$1.50 per transaction

  • Poor ratings.
AccountNow isn’t rated highly with the BBB. Many customers complain about missing money, unexpected fees and deposits not posting to their account.
  • Poor customer service.
It can be hard to get the help you need through an AccountNow representative, which could deter customers.

      Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for getting in touch with Finder. I hope all is well with you. :)

The answer is yes. You can use your card everywhere in the Netherlands where Visa debit cards are accepted. According to AccountNow’s website, you would be charged $4.95 for using an ATM overseas.

I hope this helps. Should you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach us out again.

      Have a wonderful day!

      Cheers,
      Joshua

      Hi Kimberly,

Thank you for leaving a question.

On withdrawing money from your card, may it be a debit card or credit card. These come with a pin number which you could use during withdrawals. The only difference of the two cards is that for a debit card, you are only allowed to withdraw up to the available limit while you may be able to take out a cash advance on your credit card up to a certain limit. You may need to contact your card provider if you need further assistance in this process. Be sure that the ATM you are withdrawing from has a VISA logo if you have a VISA card and vice versa. Hope this helps!

      Cheers,
      Reggie

Can i wire transfer money to my account now visa debit card?

      Hi Trisha,

      Thanks for reaching out.

A bank-to-bank wire transfer sends money directly from your bank account to another bank account. Sending a wire transfer to a debit card may not work unless you provide the bank account where this debit card is linked to.

The information needed will include the recipient’s bank account information, including routing and account numbers. For additional details on how wire transfer works, you may read further on this page.

      Cheers,
      Joanne

      Hi Julia,

Thank you for getting in touch with finder.

I understand that you are trying to use your remaining $10.05 remaining balance from your AccountNow Prepaid Visa Card.

Please be mindful of those fees charged when using the card like Visa purchases requiring a signature which is $1 per transaction or balance inquiries at ATMs for $1.50 per transaction which could be the reason that your transaction for the whole amount of $10.05 did not push through.

You may also confirm other possible fees that may apply every time you use the card from AccountNow’s website or by contacting them directly.

As a friendly reminder, while we do not represent any company we feature on our pages, we can offer you general advice.

      I hope this helps.

      Have a great day!

      Cheers,
      Jeni

Someone stole my card, I reported it and filled out form. How long does it take to replace the money

      Hi Sherry,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

When your card gets stolen or lost, you could possibly lose all your money on the card. Looks like the only thing Green Dot Bank can do is to stop someone from using your card but not really replace the money taken out from the card. I encourage you to contact Green Dot immediately to confirm this.

In the PDS, it stated that you must notify the bank of the loss or theft as soon as possible. If you report within two business days after you learn of the loss or theft, you can lose no more than $50. Otherwise, you could lose as much as $500 if you will not notify them within that period. Furthermore, you will not be liable for the amounts stated unless Green Dot determines that you were grossly negligent or fraudulent in the handling of your Card.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      May

      Hi Gold,

Thanks for your inquiry. Please note that we are not affiliated with any company we feature on our site and so we can only offer you general advice.

The maximum amount that you can load on your AccountNow Prepaid Debit Card is $10,000. You can send funds using your AccountNow Prepaid Debit Card through Western Union as it is good as bank-issued debit card. You can visit this page to know more about the services that Western Union has to offer.

      I hope this helps.

      Hi Timothy,

      Thank you for your comment.

Technically, you can use this account to send money and pay bills. Bill Pay sends money from your prepaid account electronically or through the mail. If your payee accepts Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT), you can have payments sent electronically. Basically, this process of transferring money is done online.

      Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Jhezelyn

Does my account now card have overdraft protection if I have direct deposit?

      Hello Damon,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

There is no overdraft protection on this card because this is not a traditional checking account. You only use what is available and should there be a negative balance, it will be deducted on your future loading or any other Card issued by Green Dot Bank that you maintain.

Kindly refer to Cardholder Agreement for complete disclosure of product terms.

      Hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Jonathan
