Who is Alpha?

Alpha travel insurance started back in 2006 as a range of backpacker products on the sister site Holidaysafe. In 2012 Alpha travel insurance launched their own website and started offering insurance separately.

Alpha’s aim is to provide innovative and cost effective travel insurance for everyone They don’t believe people should lose out on cover in return for a lower premium. Alpha put customer service first, which is why all of their services are provided in-house.

What are my cover options with Alpha travel insurance?

Alpha travel insurance offer four types of policy options, as well as some optional extras. Below we have listed some of the top features of each.

Alpha Single Trip travel insurance is cover for one-off trips, and can cater for individuals, couples, families and groups.

Features of the policy include:

  • Cover for declared medical conditions
  • 300+ sports and activities covered
  • Emergency 24 hour medical helpline managed by doctors
  • Cover for medical emergencies, cancellation, belongings, cash, documents and more
Alpha Multi-Trip travel insurance gives you the choice to go on holiday as many times as you like within 12 months without purchasing multiple policies.

Features of the policy include:

  • Discounts for couples
  • Cover for an unlimited amount of trips less than 31 days long in a year
  • Includes UK trips of more than 3 days
  • Worldwide cover available
  • Children covered free on family option

The Alpha Longstay travel insurance policy was designed with travellers in mind, catering for gap years, backpacking, volunteering and working abroad.

Features of the policy include:

  • Cover for up to 24 months
  • Two return home trips for up to 21 days each
  • Worldwide cover
  • Wide range of sports and activities covered
  • Option for wintersports cover

Alpha’s Wintersports travel insurance is designed for all winter-sports holidays, whether you’re skiing, snowboarding, a beginner or a pro.

Features of the policy include:

  • Cover for skiing, snowboarding and 100’s of activities
  • Protection for winter sports equipment
  • Off-piste options available
  • Cover for avalanches, air ambulance and mountain rescue

Alpha Travel Insurance have a number of optional extras that you can add-on to your policies. These can be added-on during the check-out, or you can call at a later date if your plans change.

What’s covered under my policy?

With Alpha Travel Insurance, you are covered for the same things no matter which cover level you decide to go with. The only difference between the cover levels is how much excess you decide to pay. Below are some of what’s covered under Alpha’s single trip policy:

  • If you are unable to go on the trip
  • Departure is delayed by 12 hours or more
  • Chose to cancel after 24hr delay
  • Missed outbound or homeward departure
  • Need emergency medical attention
  • Public hospital inconvenience benefit
  • Emergency dental treatment
  • If you have to come home early
  • Possessions lost, stolen or damaged
  • Clothes and footwear
  • Cosmetics/toiletries
  • Luggage
  • Electrical items
  • Jewellery and watches
  • Eyewear
  • Possessions delayed by 12 hours or more
  • If cash is lost or stolen
  • Passport lost or stolen
  • Personal liability
  • Accidental death
  • Permanent loss of sight or use of limb
  • Permanent total disablement
  • If you need legal advice

What is my excess?

An excess is the amount of money you contribute to each claim you make before Alpha travel insurance will pay out.

The amount of your excess you have to pay will depend on which policy level you have decided to go with. Make sure to check your policy schedule where your excess details will be shown in detail.

What is the claims process for Alpha?

To make a claim on you Alpha travel insurance, you will have to fill in a claims form. This can be found on the website, but you can also contact Alpha Travel Insurance by phone, email and by post.

For most claims, call: +44(0) 203 824 0705, and press 3 to speak to Travel Claims Facilities.

Once Alpha have received your claims form, the claims team aim to have you claim completed within 10-15 working days.
