Most business credit cards with rewards let you redeem your points for similar products and services. But the main difference between them is their redemption value and how you can earn points. Some credit cards are great for those who spend on a variety of categories, while others are ideal for travel bookings, with some focused on specific airlines or hotels. And even branded cards often let you redeem your points for gift cards and merchandise.

How we selected our top cards

When comparing the available business credit cards with rewards of 2019, we looked at several card features, including potential value based on spending, rewards earnings categories, points earned per dollar spent, travel or hotel rewards programs, signup bonuses and other perks or benefits of interest to business owners. The cards that stood head and shoulders above the rest in one or more of these categories earned a spot on our list.

What’s changed in 2019

The Marriott Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card has a higher annual fee and lower rewards value than comparable cards on the market (see rates & fees). Because of that, The Hilton Honors American Express Business Card has taken its place. The Gold Delta SkyMiles® Business Credit Card from American Express also edged out its Platinum sibling on our list thanks to offering comparable rewards with a lower annual fee (see rates & fees).

Also, the American Express® Blue Business Cash Card was rebranded and now offers flat cash back on all purchases and an intro APR period on purchases and balance transfers.

Bottom line

The highest value you can get with most business credit cards with rewards usually requires using them for travel purchases. Even the cards that earn cash back usually have a higher value if you redeem your earnings for travel instead of cash. But that shouldn’t prevent you from using your points and miles for other types of rewards if you want to. You can still redeem your hotel points and airline miles for gift cards, cash back, shopping and more.

But if you don’t find any of these cards appealing, make sure to compare other credit cards until you find the right option for your business.
