Consider your annual spending and favored purchasing categories.

Updated

Whether you’ve just started a business, or have been running one for years, getting a new Visa business credit card can be an exciting step in your professional life. It can be a cost-effective way to save in categories you spend most, a way to save on interest, and more.

But choosing the right Visa business credit card for you can feel overwhelming with all the options out there. Determining which card could help your business the most depends on your annual spending, favored purchasing categories and even your travel routines. To help you narrow the choices we compared Visa business credit cards across various categories.

We compared a variety of features to choose our top Visa business credit cards, including rewards categories, travel type, the ability to earn points with employee cards, welcome offers, fees and other concerns a business owner might consider when selecting a card. How to choose a Visa business credit card

When choosing a business Visa card, you should ask yourself the following questions:

  • Do you spend much on any particular category? If your business mostly spends on travel, Internet, cable and phone services, shipping and advertising with social media and search engines up to $150,000 per year, then the Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card from Chase could be a good choice. If you spend more than $150,000 annually, or if you don’t spend much on any particular category, the Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business may be the right card for your business.
  • Do you often travel? Businesses that often use United Airlines to travel could find the United℠ Explorer Business Card from Chase to be a solid card. You’ll even save money on travel expenses by using partner airlines, hotels and car rental services.
  • Do you want an intro APR period? In that case, the U.S. Bank Business Platinum could be worth considering. It comes with an intro APR period on balance transfers and purchases that not many cards can match.

Typical features of Visa business credit cards

Some features come with all business Visa credit cards. However, not all card providers may decide to offer them. Here are the Visa business credit card features you’ll typically see:

  • Auto rental collision damage waiver. Get coverage for your rental car against theft and damage.
  • Purchase security and extended protection. Eligible purchases are covered for 90 days from the date of purchase against theft and damage with $10,000 per occurrence and $50,000 per year.
  • Travel and emergency assistance. Whenever you need assistance when traveling, call Visa customer support and they can help you out.
  • Visa IntelliLink for small businesses. Visa lets you manage cash flow efficiently by simplifying expense reporting.
  • Visa SavingsEdge. You can earn accelerated rewards of up to 10% back at participating retailers.
  • Zero liability. You won’t be held liable for unauthorized transactions you report to your card provider.
  • Travel perks. Get lost luggage reimbursement, travel accident insurance and roadside dispatch.

Alternatives to Visa business credit cards

Visa isn’t the only card network that offers business credit cards. Consider its biggest competitors, such as:

  • Mastercard.
You’ll find several great Mastercard business products from different issuers such as Citi and Bank of America.
  • American Express.
There are powerful Amex business credit cards, such as the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express.

Should you get a business credit card?

When growing your business, you’ll want a line of credit to help pay for necessary expenses, lulls in business and other financial emergencies. Whether you choose a business credit card or another option, such as a business line of credit, depends on a few factors. These factors include your existing credit score, the amount of money you’ll need to borrow, the size of your business and whether you want rewards on your spending. For more information on whether you should pick up a business credit card, compare business credit cards versus business lines of credit.

Bottom line

The great thing about these cards is that most of them offer generous signup bonuses, no foreign transaction fees and have relatively low annual fees. The only oddball here is the U.S. Bank Business Platinum, which offers none of that. Instead, it comes with an intro APR period on balance transfers and purchases.

If you’re not convinced any of these are right for you, check out our guide to business credit cards to compare your other options.
