Find out if you can save on rental excess insurance with Big Blue Cover.
Whether you’re renting a car abroad or in the UK, it’s smart to get insurance to cover your excess in the event of a claim, as the excess is typically hundreds of pounds. You’re likely to make big savings if you buy excess cover from an independent insurer rather than the car hire firm.
With Big Blue Cover's car rental excess insurance, you will be covered for any excess costs you face if you have to make a claim for your rental car.
Our review of Big Blue Cover highlights the key features you need to know.
Who is Big Blue Cover?
Big Blue Cover is a UK-based insurance company that provides travel insurance and car rental excess insurance. It’s part of the ROCK Insurance Group, and has over 15 years of experience in travel insurance.
The company says it aims to offer affordable insurance without compromising on the quality of cover.
What are my cover options with Big Blue Cover?
With Big Blue Cover, there are two policy options available. We’ve listed them below with a selection of their features.
Going on a road trip or hiring a car as a one-off? Big Blue Cover’s single trip cover offers protection against high excess costs. Here are the key features:
- You can get daily cover for up to 180 days
- Excess covered up to £7,500
If you regularly hire a car or go on multiple holidays a year, you could save both time and money by taking out an annual policy from Big Blue Cover. This policy:
- Covers hire agreements of up to 31 days
- Covers an excess of up to £7,500
What’s covered under my policy?
Although car insurance comes as standard when you rent a car, the policy typically excludes the excess you’d have to pay in the event of a claim, and the excess can be high. There may also be parts of the car that aren’t covered – such as the windscreen or tyres – and while you’ll be covered if the car is damaged or stolen, you’ll likely face a big excess.
With this policy, you will be covered for any excess charges, and you’ll get protection for any parts of the car not covered under the hire car firm’s policy.
Excess cover includes:
- Damage by fire
- Theft or damage by theft
- Windscreen damage
- Roof damage
- Tyre damage
- Towing costs
- Wrong fuel cover up to £500
- Replacement keys and locksmith
- Personal possessions and baggage
What is an excess?
Your excess is the amount of money you’re expected to contribute if you have to make a claim on insurance. With hire cars, these excess costs can be as high as £2,000.
With a rental car excess insurance policy, you will be covered for any excess charges, and get an extra layer of protection for your hire car.
