How to stream Amazon Prime Video without a smart TV
You can stream Amazon Prime Video content in style even without a smart TV.
Besides a fun library of content and exciting original productions, Amazon Prime Video also offers subscribers great device compatibility. You can stream shows on a variety of gadgets, including smartphones, gaming consoles and streaming media devices.
As a result, you don’t need a smart TV to watch your favourite shows and movies on the big screen. Simply use one of the methods below and you’ll be up and running in no time. Plus don’t forget you can get started with Prime Video’s 30-day free trial.
Streaming Prime Video through a smartphone
To watch via your mobile device, download the Amazon Prime application from the relevant iOS or Android app store. Once you log in to your account, you should be good to go.
Streaming Prime Video through a gaming console
Amazon’s video-streaming service is compatible with PS3, PS4 and Xbox One. Each console has an online store where you can download games and applications, including Amazon Prime Video.
For PS3, open the PlayStation Store from the XrossMediaBar (XMB), then select “Apps” and then “Movies and TV”. Find Prime and opt for “Download”. For PS4, open “TV & Video” from the XrossMediaBar (XMB), find Prime and select the “Download” option. Next, select “Start” to launch the app.
If you have an Xbox One, open the “Store” tab from the Home Screen. Find Prime and select the “Get” option. Finally, select “Launch” to access the app.
Using Amazon Prime through a streaming device
Streaming media devices are convenient little gadgets that enable you to stream content to your television. They basically make your TV smarter in a very affordable way. Amazon streaming works with Singtel TV, StarHub TV and Apple TV, so take your pick.
If you have signed up for or renewed your Singtel broadband/postpaid plans, you’re eligible to link Amazon Prime’s video streaming service to your Singtel TV. You can enjoy Prime Video at no cost for the first year and at a rate of $2.99 a month after that. Simply log in to Prime Video with the login details provided to you by Singtel.
StarHub users can sign up for Amazon Prime streaming through the StarHub app. You can then enjoy a Prime membership with StarHub for S$2.99 a month.
To add Amazon Prime streaming to Apple TV, open the App Store application from the Home Screen, search for Prime Video and select the “Get” option. Then, select Prime Video from the Home Screen to launch the app.
Using Amazon Prime on a laptop
Simply access Amazon Prime via an up-to-date web browser and log in to your account. If you don’t have a game console or streaming player, you can connect your laptop or tablet directly to your TV via an HDMI cable. Then, switch your TV to HDMI mode and you should see your tablet/laptop screen mirrored on the TV. It’s not perfect, but it usually works.
