Our verdict
Manage your finances together with this joint bank account and prepaid card, but it’s not available on desktop.
Honeydue is a free budgeting app built for couples who want to manage money together without fully merging accounts. It connects to your existing bank, credit card, loan and investment accounts so both partners can see balances and spending in one place, with custom privacy controls over what's shared. Honeydue previously offered its own Visa debit card and joint cash account, but the card was fully sunset in September 2023.
Best for: Couples who want shared visibility into spending without merging bank accounts.

What we like about Honeydue
First, Honeydue doesn’t charge any monthly fees. Compared to other budgeting apps, this is a huge leg up. Top competitors, like You Need a Budget (YNAB), usually charge a monthly fee, with YNAB starting at $14.99/month.
Honeydue’s main purpose is to allow couples to share finances without fully merging or opening a joint account. Like other couple budgeting and joint accounts, Honeydue doesn’t require users to be married. Folks who are unmarried, newlyweds, roommates and so on can use the app.
As a mobile-only platform, Honeydue allows you to manage everything from your phone. It also uses Plaid to link accounts, so if your accounts aren’t compatible with Plaid, you may want to check out other budgeting apps.
Connect accounts and customize sharing
You and your partner each connect your own accounts to Honeydue, which can include bank accounts, loans and credit cards. Honeydue supports over 20,000 financial institutions across five countries.
After you choose what accounts to link, you choose what to share. You have the option to share full transaction details, or just balances only, or nothing at all. Specfically, choosing not to share everything for certain accounts could be helpful if you want to hide certain purchases, like Christmas or anniversary gift transactions.
Reminders and bank-level security
With built-in budgeting tools and instant notifications, Honeydue helps couples track spending and manage finances together with full transparency. You can turn on reminders to nudge you or your partner when it’s time to pay certain bills, and an in-app chat feature lets you comment on transactions or send quick reactions to your partner.
On security, Honeydue encrypts information in 256 bits both in transit and storage, and requires multifactor authentication.
What could be better
While Honeydue offers unique perks for couples, there are some limitations to consider. As a mobile-only platform, you cannot access your account through a web browser.
Also, Honeydue used to offer a card program, but that was discontinued in 2023. There’s currently a waitlist for a new card it’s trying to launch, but no hard and fast release date is mentioned.

There aren’t a lot of customer reviews on Trustpilot or the Better Business Bureau (BBB) for Honeydue. However, there are a few thousand ratings on the app stores.
Many customers praise the app for its user-friendly interface and effective budgeting tools, which make managing joint finances straightforward. Users appreciate the absence of hidden fees, highlighting how this feature simplifies budgeting without unexpected charges. The instant notifications for transactions and deposits also earn positive remarks, as they help both partners stay informed about their finances.
On the negative side, some users express frustration over the mobile-only access and limited customer support options. Additionally, customers have noted the inability to deposit cash or checks directly through the app (this was a large complaint when Honeydue offered a card).
If you’re in need of a full joint account to fund, you might consider exploring options with Ally Bank or Capital One.
