What’s open in Hamilton right now?

What you can and can't get up to in Hamilton during the pandemic.

Restrictions and alerts are constantly changing across New Zealand. Unsure where you can go, what you can do and what rules you need to follow when you leave the house? We’ve laid everything out here so you can go about your day safely in Hamilton.

Note, the below is accurate as of 2 March 2021. Due to the evolving nature of the situation, the information provided can change at any time. Contact the venue before visiting to confirm. Social distancing and maintaining good hygiene still apply.

What restrictions are in place for Hamilton residents?

Hamilton, like more of New Zealand, is on Alert Level 2. This means that you can go about your everyday but with a few health and safety measures to follow to keep the community safe. Specifically these are:

  • Physical distancing rules: When in unregulated public spaces such as retail stores and shopping malls, you should keep two metres away from others. When in controlled spaces, such as offices, this is reduced to one metre.
  • Gatherings are limited to 100 people: No gathering in a defined space may exceed 100 people. This includes at weddings, funerals and festivals.
  • Wear a mask on public transport: You should also wear a mask in public, particularly if physical distancing is difficult or impossible, such as in a rideshare.
  • If you’re sick, get tested: Even if you’re only presenting mild symptoms, getting tested and isolating at home reduces the spread of COVID-19. After being tested, stay at home until you receive a negative result.
  • Get the NZ COVID Tracer app: All businesses, services, transport operators and workplaces must display a NZ COVID Tracer app sign. Patrons should use it to check in and out.
  • Maintain good hygiene: This includes washing your hands for 20 seconds, sanitising your hands and sneezing or coughing into your elbow or a tissue.
  • Travel only to Alert Level 2 or lower locations: While local and regional travel are allowed, you should avoid any areas that are in a higher alert than Hamilton. At the time of writing this is only Auckland.
