Our verdict

Survey Junkie is a legit survey site with a low $5 cash-out, but its Privacy Policy says it sells your data and its Terms give it wide control over your points.

Survey Junkie is an online market research community wholly owned by DISQO, Inc. You earn points for taking surveys, completing profiles and joining the occasional focus group or product test. Every 500 points is worth $5, and that's also the minimum to cash out.

The low floor and the choice of PayPal, bank transfer or gift cards are the main draw. The catch is in the fine print. Its Privacy Policy says DISQO sells and shares the information it collects with clients, and its Terms let it deactivate your account if you don't take a survey at least once every 12 months. You'll also need to verify your identity before you redeem, and not every survey you start will pay. Cash out as soon as you can, stay active and read the Privacy Policy before you install Surf to Earn.

Best for: Adults who want small PayPal or gift card payouts for answering surveys and don't mind trading personal data to get them.

Pros

  • Cash-outs from $5 (500 points)
  • PayPal, bank transfer or gift cards
  • You still receive a small reward for surveys you don’t qualify for.
  • Point value and time shown before you start
  • Monthly bonus point promotions

Cons

  • Data sold to clients, per its Privacy Policy
  • Deactivation risk for inactive accounts
  • Identity check before you can redeem
  • Disqualifications partway through surveys
  • Conflicting details across its own pages

Is Survey Junkie legit?

Yes, Survey Junkie is a real, working survey platform. It’s wholly owned by DISQO, Inc., which sells and delivers data and analytics to the market research industry, according to its Terms. Both its Terms and Privacy Policy list a Glendale, California address, and more than 30,000 members cash out each month, per its homepage.

Being legit isn’t the same as being consistent, though. Its homepage says it has had more than 20 million members to date, while its About Us page says more than 10 million. Its Terms also give two different deadlines for redeeming points after Survey Junkie deactivates an account — more on that below.

What makes Survey Junkie shine?

  • Low cash-out floor. You can redeem from $5 (500 points), per its homepage FAQ.
  • Several ways to get paid. Survey Junkie pays through PayPal, bank transfer or gift cards for brands like Amazon, Target, Walmart, Sephora, Starbucks, Visa and iTunes. Options can vary by location and verification status.
  • Points for trying. Even if you don’t qualify for a survey, Survey Junkie still gives you a few points for the attempt.
  • No guesswork on surveys. Each survey card shows its point value and estimated completion time before you start.
  • More than just surveys. Monthly promotions pay bonus points for completing a set number of surveys a day. Focus groups and product tests come up less frequently but often pay more, according to its homepage.

Where Survey Junkie falls short

  • It sells your data. DISQO sells and shares the information it collects with clients, according to its Privacy Policy. Those clients can include market research and ad agencies, retailers, tech companies, data aggregators and investment management firms. That’s at odds with its homepage, which says survey responses go directly to the research company and Survey Junkie only passes along encrypted data.
  • Surf to Earn collects a lot. If you install it, Survey Junkie can collect your browsing and search history, time spent on pages, shopping activity down to items you add to your cart, the ads you see, the apps you install or delete and your location, per its Privacy Policy. That policy says Survey Junkie may pull some of this from your merchant or email accounts — even though its homepage says email services are never accessed.
  • Your points aren’t fully safe. Its Terms let Survey Junkie deactivate your account if you don’t take a survey at least once every 12 months or if its emails to you bounce. The Terms give conflicting redemption windows after deactivation — 180 days in one section and 30 days in another. If Survey Junkie terminates your account for breaking its Terms, you forfeit all unredeemed points.
  • Survey Junkie holds the cards. Its Terms say it can refuse service to anyone for any reason and terminate any account at its sole discretion. It can also withhold payment if it believes your PayPal or bank account holder isn’t the same person as the member.
  • You’ll need to prove who you are. Verification can include a text, email or phone call, a cross-check with its rewards partners or photo ID, per its homepage. Its Privacy Policy says it may ask for a photo, video or government ID and collect biometric data from your facial images, though you can choose another verification method.
  • Not every survey pays out. Brands can disqualify you if you don’t match the audience they need, if a survey hits its quota or if you speed through or answer differently than your profile.
  • Its own pages don’t line up. Its homepage lists PayPal, bank transfer and gift cards, while its Surf to Earn page lists PayPal, wire transfer, check or gift card. The Surf to Earn page also lists iOS as coming soon, while its Privacy Policy describes Surf to Earn on iOS.

  3. Confirm your email address.

How do you earn money on Survey Junkie?

Here are the main ways to earn, according to Survey Junkie’s homepage:

  • Take surveys. Survey Junkie matches you to surveys based on your profile in categories like food and beverage, technology, entertainment, retail, financial services, travel and healthcare. It works much like other sites that let you earn money through surveys — you see the points and time up front.
  • Complete your profiles. You earn points for signing up, confirming your email and filling out your general and category-specific profiles. Its blog guide lists 25 points for signing up, 25 for confirming your email, 50 for your general profile and 60 for your category profiles.
  • Join focus groups and product tests. These are less common than surveys, but they often pay more because they take more time.
  • Hit monthly bonus promotions. You earn bonus points for completing a set number of surveys each day within a set time frame. Points and time frames vary.
  • Opt in to Surf to Earn. You earn guaranteed monthly points and get access to exclusive surveys for sharing your online activity. You need at least five online sessions a month, and monthly points arrive after 30 days of installation.

Tips to get more out of Survey Junkie

  • Cash out early. Since Survey Junkie can deactivate or terminate accounts, redeeming as soon as you hit the minimum minimizes what’s at stake.
  • Take at least one survey a year. Its Terms let it deactivate accounts that go 12 months without a survey.
  • Update your profile every six months. Its Terms ask members to review their profiles at least that often, and answering differently than your profile can get you disqualified.
  • Take your time. Its Terms list speeding through surveys as fraudulent activity.
  • Save survey details. Member Support asks for the survey ID, survey provider, screenshots and your device and browser details if something goes wrong.
  • Decide on arbitration early. Its Terms give you 30 days from first using the site to opt out of its arbitration agreement by emailing privacy@surveyjunkie.com.
  • Know the tax rules. Its Terms treat you as an independent contractor responsible for your own taxes. Its blog guide says US members who earn more than $600 in a calendar year need to submit a W-9.

Survey Junkie reviews and complaints

BBB accredited Yes
BBB rating B+
BBB customer reviews 1.32 out of 5 stars, based on 57 customer reviews
Trustpilot Score 3.2 out of 5 stars, based on 44,909 customer reviews
App Store Score 4.6 out of 5 stars, based on 87,000 customer reviews
Google Play Score 4.3 out of 5 stars, based on 109,000 customer reviews
Customer reviews verified as of 06 November 2026

Positive reviews commonly praise the $5 cash-out and fast gift card delivery, with one recent Google Play reviewer saying bank deposits arrive one to two business days after cashing out. Negative reviews cluster around late disqualifications in long surveys that pay a handful of points, accounts flagged at cash-out and verification steps that wouldn’t work without a smartphone. In its Trustpilot replies, Survey Junkie says third-party research providers decide who’s disqualified.

What do people on Reddit say?

Recent posts in r/surveyjunkie are mostly frustrated. The biggest complaint is screen-outs: one user said they got screened out of 13 surveys in a day while trying to hit a daily bonus target, and another said every survey ended with a security or quality-check message when they were one survey away from a 500-point promo bonus.

Several users described finishing long surveys — including one that required watching two TV episodes — only to hit an error or get sent to a third-party login page and receive 0 points.

Others said some disqualifications paid nothing, even though Survey Junkie says it gives a few points for attempts. On the positive side, one user called it “small but honest money” after a successful payout.

How does Survey Junkie make money?

Survey Junkie makes money by selling data. DISQO sells and shares the information members provide — survey answers, profile details and Surf to Earn activity — with clients so they can understand consumer trends, measure and improve advertising and build better products, according to its Privacy Policy. Its California notice says it “sells” personal information to DISQO customers and for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Your points are your cut of that trade. If that’s a dealbreaker, user testing or other money-making apps may suit you better.

How does Survey Junkie pay you?

Every 500 points is worth $5. Once you reach that, you can cash out through:

  • PayPal, from $5 — you need a valid, verified PayPal account
  • Bank transfer, from $5 — sent by ACH through payment processor Dwolla; US members only, per its blog guide
  • Gift cards, from $5 — Amazon, Target, Walmart, Sephora, Starbucks, Visa, iTunes and more; US members only, per its blog guide

You’ll need to verify your identity first, and bank transfers require your account holder name, account type, routing number and account number. Its blog guide says you can only change your bank details once through Member Support in exceptional cases. If you want your money faster, see our list of free apps that pay instantly.
