Mistplay Review: Is It Legit and Worth It? (2026)

Our verdict
Mistplay is a legit, long-running app that pays you in gift cards for playing mobile games, but it sets your earning rate individually and caps what you can redeem.
Mistplay is a rewards app for Android and iPhone that pays you in units — called points on iPhone — for playing new games you find through the app. You trade them for gift cards from brands like Amazon, Visa, Walmart and Starbucks, and users have redeemed more than $200 million in rewards since 2016, according to Mistplay's homepage.
The catch is in the fine print. Mistplay doesn't publish how many units equal $1 on its website, and its Terms say different users can earn different amounts for the same action. You can redeem no more than $550 a year, and Mistplay can hold your account or require ID and selfie checks before you cash out. It's a casual way to earn money playing games, not a steady side income.
Best for: Casual mobile gamers who want gift cards for trying new games and don't mind slow, variable earning.

Is Mistplay legit?
Yes. Mistplay is run by Mistplay Inc., a Montreal-based company that also does business as 481 Studios. Its Terms name a registered Montreal address, CEO Patricia Han and a legal contact email. Users have also redeemed more than $200 million in rewards since 2016.
Like other game apps that pay real money, though, legit doesn’t mean hassle-free. Mistplay uses automated fraud tools that can suspend accounts in real time, and blocked accounts are a recurring complaint in its reviews. If you think Mistplay blocked your account by mistake, you can reach out to customer support.
What makes Mistplay shine?
- Big game library. Mistplay has more than 350 games, from puzzles to RPGs, and you can earn progress in several games at once.
- No fees to join or cash out. Mistplay is free to download, needs no credit card and charges no withdrawal fees.
- Brand-name gift cards. You can pick gift cards from $10 to $100 from brands like Amazon, Target, Walmart, Mastercard and Google Play.
- Fast processing on most rewards. Mistplay says it processes most rewards within an hour, though its gift card FAQ says to expect delivery within 48 hours.
- More ways to earn. Beyond gameplay, you can earn through daily streaks, daily tasks, tournaments, sweepstakes and referrals. Its Terms also list surveys and tutorials among the tasks that can earn units, though if surveys are your main goal, paid survey sites are built around them.
Where Mistplay falls short
- You can’t see what a unit is worth. Mistplay doesn’t publish a unit-to-dollar rate on its website. Redemption values in the Shop can vary by user, provider and location.
- Your earn rate is personal. Mistplay can use AI and machine learning to set the rates and multipliers at which you earn, and it can run tests that change the value of rewards, according to its Terms. Two people can earn different amounts for the same action.
- Redemption caps. You can redeem a maximum of $550 in gift cards or other rewards per calendar year, per its Terms. There’s also a $250 daily cap across all gift cards.
- Strict fraud checks. Mistplay may require phone or email checks, video selfies, liveness checks, government ID or precise location before you register or redeem. A redemption isn’t final until Mistplay finishes any required verification.
- Only new games count. You won’t earn for games you’ve already played or installed outside Mistplay, even on an older phone or if someone else installed them. Each game also caps earning progress at two hours a day, except during some events.
- Units expire. Your units can expire if you don’t earn any within 180 days.
- Broad data collection. Mistplay collects data on the other apps installed on your phone, your precise location and your device IDs. It shares some data with ad networks, which may count as a “sale” under California law, according to its Privacy Notice. You can opt out by contacting support@mistplay.com.
- Arbitration clause. US users agree to individual arbitration in New York and waive class actions. You can choose small claims court instead only if you notify Mistplay in writing within 60 days of signing up.

How to sign up for Mistplay
- Download Mistplay from the Google Play Store or App Store.
- Create your account with an email address, phone number or a third-party login like Google or Facebook.
- Allow the device permissions Mistplay asks for, since it tracks your playtime through your device settings.
- Pick a game from your personalized list and install it through Mistplay.
- Play to earn units as you reach in-game checkpoints.
- Redeem your units for a gift card in the Shop once you have enough.
How do you earn money on Mistplay?
Mistplay says it’s designed around playtime rather than task completion, which sets it apart from broader money-making apps built around surveys and offers. You earn units by playing games you discover through Mistplay. Here’s how the system works:
- Play to reach checkpoints. Every minute you play earns Game Experience Points (GXP), which move you toward the next checkpoint in that game. Each checkpoint pays a base number of units times the game’s unit multiplier. For example, a 20-unit base with a multiplier of five pays 100 units.
- Level up. Checkpoints also earn Player Experience Points (PXP). You get extra units each time you reach a new player level.
- Earn gems in Loyalty games. Making in-game purchases in eligible Loyalty games earns gems, which move you up from Bronze to Silver, Gold and Platinum status. Higher tiers unlock higher multipliers.
- Keep a daily streak. Playing every day keeps your Daily Streak going for bonus rewards.
- Join events. Daily tasks, tournaments and sweepstakes can add units, with rules shown in the app.
- Refer friends. You earn bonus units when a friend signs up with your link and again when they reach Checkpoint 5 in a game. You also earn an ongoing bonus based on what your first five successful referrals earn.
Your setup may look different. Mistplay enrolls new US Android users who joined on or after June 30, 2026 in an “events-first” system that rewards events like in-game milestones and purchases. Under that system, gems can’t be exchanged for units or redeemed for rewards, according to its Terms.
Tips to get more out of Mistplay
- Install games only through Mistplay. Games you’ve installed before won’t earn units, even if you deleted them.
- Spread your play across games. Each game caps earning progress at two hours a day, so rotating games keeps units coming.
- Skip VPNs and second accounts. Mistplay’s Terms ban both, and either can get your account blocked.
- Use a real, permanent email. Mistplay sends gift cards to the email on your account, and its Terms ban disposable email addresses.
- Earn at least some units every few months. Units can expire if you don’t earn any within 180 days.
- Be ready to verify. Mistplay may ask for ID or a selfie before it releases a reward, so have your details handy when you cash out.
Mistplay reviews and complaints
| BBB accredited | No |
|---|---|
| BBB rating | 0 |
| Trustpilot Score | 4.1 out of 5 stars, based on 5,795 customer reviews |
| App Store Score | 4.5 out of 5 stars, based on 67,000 customer reviews |
| Google Play Score | 4.4 out of 5 stars, based on 1,070,000 customer reviews |
| Customer reviews verified as of | 06 November 2026 |
Mistplay’s reviews are mostly positive, but complaints follow a clear pattern. On Trustpilot, happy reviewers praise quick, helpful support and reliable payouts. Unhappy ones mention account suspensions, trouble cashing out, bugs, limited game selection and limited gift card choices outside the US.
App Store reviews describe accounts blocked right after fast early earnings. One reviewer said Mistplay blocked them the same day they reached about $20 in points, and another said support told them earning more than 1,000 units a day broke the rules. Mistplay’s Terms don’t publish a daily unit limit, though they do say Mistplay can limit how many units you earn in a given time frame.
What do people on Reddit say?
Reddit users are divided, though many posts in r/Mistplay’s feed are about five years old, so treat them as background rather than a current snapshot. The subreddit is also run by Mistplay, with official Mistplay accounts listed as moderators.
On the positive side, one user shared $125 in Amazon and Spotify cash-outs over five months, and others swapped tips like downloading new games as soon as they appear. The most common complaints match what Mistplay’s Terms allow today. Several users said Mistplay put their accounts on hold or blocked them right after they redeemed a gift card, and one said Mistplay accused them and their spouse of account farming despite having one account each.
Others questioned the face verification step needed to cash out, and some said reward speed dropped partway through a game. In one case, Mistplay’s in-app explanation said the game developer hadn’t credited Mistplay for the install — the same rule its Economy Disclosure describes today.
How does Mistplay make money?
Game developers pay Mistplay to promote their games. Mistplay recommends their games in the app, tracks your installs, playtime and in-game purchases, and bills those developers for the results, according to its Privacy Notice. It also shows offers from third-party brands it calls Premium Partners, such as Trofeo and Besitos. Its Terms say collecting your gameplay data is how Mistplay generates revenue and funds your rewards.
It’s also why your payout depends on the game developer. If a developer can’t confirm you found its game through Mistplay, Mistplay may not be able to reward you.
How does Mistplay pay you?
You redeem units for rewards in the in-app Shop. Rewards include:
- Gift cards starting at $10 from brands like Amazon, Target, Walmart and Mastercard
- Prepaid cards
- Sweepstakes entries
Mistplay emails your gift card in your local currency, so US users get cards in US dollars. It says it processes most rewards within an hour, but its gift card FAQ says delivery can take up to 48 hours. Units have no cash value, and you can’t redeem them for cash.
You can’t move units between the Android and iPhone apps. If you need money in hand soon, gift cards capped at $550 a year make Mistplay a slow fit compared with other ways to make money fast.
