HSBC Elite Credit Card could be a good fit for HSBC Premier customers who often travel Internationally. It’s a premium travel card with perks and accelerated points on travel and dining.

To apply for the card, however, you must be an HSBC Premier customer.

The perks

  • Signup bonus.
    Spend $4,000 in the first 3 months of your account opening and earn 50,000 bonus points. As of March 2019, that’s up to $750 worth of airfare when booked through HSBC Rewards, according to the HSBC website.
  • Reward points.
    Earn 3x points on travel purchases, 2x on dining and 1x on everything else you buy.
  • Lounge membership.
    Enjoy membership to more than 850 airport lounges worldwide from Mastercard Airport Experiences, and two lounge visits per year for no extra cost.
  • Annual air travel credit.
    Get $100 air travel credit every year to reimburse airfare, seat upgrades, baggage fees or in-flight purchases.
  • Uber and Lyft credit.
    Use $100 statement credit annually for Uber and Lyft rides.
  • TSA PreCheck credit.
    Apply for TSA PreCheck and get reimbursed for the $85 application fee.

What to watch out for

  • Annual fee.
    Expect to pay a $395 annual fee for the card. Authorized users cost an additional $65 per person.
  • Penalty APR.
    A single late payment could set you back for a late payment fee and a penalty APR of 29.99% variable. Once incurred it will apply for at least six months, but it may apply indefinitely if you don’t pay your balance on time.
  • Application eligibility.
    You’ll need to have a minimum of $100,000 in an HSBC Premier checking account to apply. Otherwise, you’ll pay a maintenance fee of $50 monthly.
