How we selected our top cards

We compared Chase cards across the most common credit card categories, including airline cards, hotel cards, business cards, rewards cards, gas cards, balance transfer cards and premium cards. Those Chase cards that featured the biggest or most valuable welcome offer in a given category were selected for our list.

What’s changed in 2019

Chase cards only became stronger in 2019, with most cards holding their positions from last year. Of special note is the bigger welcome offer on the Sapphire Preferred. While it came at the cost of the intro annual fee, an extra 10,000 Ultimate Rewards points more than makes up for that loss and cements the card as the best Chase general travel card.
