The BP Business Solutions Fuel Plus card is a closed-loop card for managers of midsize fleets. It offers up to 6 cents per gallon in fuel rebates. However, watch out for a monthly account fee of up to $10 per account, which can cut into your savings.

The issuing bank, Fleetcor determines whether your credit is revolving or non-revolving. A revolving account allows user to make a minimum payment after each billing cycle. A non-revolving account means you have to pay the entire balance at each billing cycle.

What credit score do I need?

With a fair credit score of 580 or higher, you may be approved for this card. If your score is below 660, however, Fleetcor may designate your account as high-risk. In this case, you may pay steeper late fees.

When is my account considered high-risk?

If your account is deemed high-risk, you may be subject to additional fees. Fleetcor may deem your account to be high-risk if:

  • Your commercial credit score is below 520.
  • Your personal credit score is below 660.
  • There’s a drop in your credit score of 51 points or more within three months.
  • More than one late fee is assessed on your account in any 12-month period.
  • You’ve been late on payments for 30 or more days within any 12-month period.
  • Your bank doesn’t honor a payment you’ve made.

Fleetcor may adjust your fees, billing cycle, payment terms and credit limit if your account is high-risk. It may also add a 2% fee — what it calls a Credit Risk Assessment — per billing cycle.

Bottom line

If you purchase at least 300 gallons of fuel a month at BP stations, you could find this card’s strong rebates useful. If you spend less than that and want to make purchases outside of BP stations, however, a different card will likely suit you better.

If you don’t want a fleet card, consider a small-business gas card to find the card that fits you best.
