2 Barclay credit cards worth the annual fee

While Barclaycard doesn’t have the same name recognition as Citi or Amex, it still offers a few cards worth having, annual fee and all.

  • Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard®. If you’re a frequent Hawaiian Airlines traveler, this card offers not just rewards by an annual companion certificate worth $100 each year. That covers the cost of the card!
  • AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard®. This is another excellent travel offering from Barclaycard, offering a flat 2x miles on all purchases and a bevy of American Airlines perks.
  • Should I get a Barclaycard card with no annual fee?

Yes, with a caveat. Since many Barclaycard no annual fee options are cobranded cards, your choices are relatively limited compared to another provider’s options.

Get a Barclaycard with no annual fee if…

    • You see a card offered by a travel brand you frequently use.
    • You’re a big NFL or Barnes & Nobles fan.

    Get something else if…

    • You don’t see a card that matches your travel preferences.
    • You want a card with a more flexible and robust rewards program.

How to compare Barclaycard cards with no annual fee

A majority of Barclaycard credit cards are travel cards, so you’ll want to compare a few factors that impact your travel earnings and habits.

  • Pick your favorite travel brand. Most Barclaycard travel cards are cobranded. If you don’t see a card with an airline or cruise company that you use, you’ll have to look elsewhere.
  • Consider your spending habits. Even if there’s a card with a travel brand you enjoy, you need to consider whether you spend enough in the card’s earning categories to make the card worth it over a different card.
  • Look at the intro APR offers. Many Barclaycard credit cards come with an intro APR on balance transfers but not all come with an intro APR on purchases.
  • Bottom line

Most no-annual-fee Barclaycard credit cards are designed for travel in the form of airline, hotel or cruise line cobranded credit cards. But you can also find rewards cards for everyday spendings, such as dining, for Barnes & Noble purchases and for Apple purchases.

If this selection of cards doesn’t seem appealing enough, check out other credit cards and compare your options.
