Barclaycard Arrival Plus™ World Elite MasterCard® review

If you’re looking to earn rewards points as you spend, you may be interested in this Barclaycard. With it, you can earn 50,000 bonus miles as a new cardholder and 2x points when making purchases. Using this card to transfer balances from existing cards can also lead to savings, given its 0.00% APR on balance transfers, which stays in place for the first 12 months. Another plus: travel accident and trip cancellation insurance for cardholders.

The perks

  • Earn miles quickly. Cardholders earn 2 miles for every dollar spent on all purchases. Plus, after you make $3,000 in purchases within the first 90 days, you get 50,000 bonus miles that you can also use toward a $500 travel statement credit. Your rewards miles don’t expire as long as your credit card account remains in good standing.
  • Rewards for spending. In addition to earning rewards miles quickly, you can also earn miles back when you redeem them for travel. Every time you redeem your miles for statement credits, you get 5% miles back.
  • Multiple options in redeeming miles. Redeem your miles toward travel rewards like airfare, hotel accommodations, cruises and more. Start by making a travel purchase using your Barclaycard Arrival Plus card. You can then redeem your accumulated miles for travel statement credits toward part of or the entire amount of the travel purchase within the next 120 days.
  • MasterCard benefits. All cardholders get around-the-clock access to the global MasterCard World Elite Concierge service that can help with matters ranging from entertainment to business. They also get access to a range of luxury travel benefits.
  • Complimentary travel insurance. Cardholders can make use of complimentary travel accident and trip cancellation insurance, which provides reimbursement for any nonrefundable cancellation or change fee if your trip is interrupted or cancelled for a covered reason and your tickets were purchased with your Barclaycard Arrival PlusWorld Elite MasterCard. The card also protects you with $0 fraud liability on unauthorized charges.
  • Balance transfer offer. Save money by transferring balances from existing cards that charge high interest.

The nuts and bolts

  • Annual fee. This credit card attracts an ongoing annual fee of $89. For new cardholders, Barclaycard waives this fee for the first year.
  • Balance transfer offer. Transfer balances from existing cards and receive a promotional 0.00% APR on balance transfers for the first 12 months, with a fee of minimum of $5 or 3% of the amount for each transfer, whichever is greater. This rate applies to balance transfers made within 45 days on account opening. At the end of the 12-month promotional period, the variable APR adjusts to 16.74% - 23.74% Variable for all outstanding balances.
  • Interest-free days. You don’t have to pay any interest on purchases if you pay your account’s closing balance in full before each due date. You get at least 23 days between the end of a billing cycle and the following due date.
  • Foreign transaction fees. There are no foreign transaction fees on anything you buy using your Barclaycard while in another country.

As with all credit cards, it’s a good idea to pay off your balance in full each month to avoid accruing interest. With Barclaycard, you may not be charged interest if you pay off your balance by your monthly due date. If you are charged interest, you’ll be assessed at least $0.50.
