When you’re hailing a ride in the Uber app, select Uber Cash as your payment option. Your ride fare will be drawn from your Uber Cash balance.
Uber credits aren’t applied automatically anymore
Up until late 2018, Uber credits were applied for you. Now, credits are added to your Uber Cash balance.
This means it’s important to select Uber Cash as your payment option before your trip. Otherwise, your credits will sit unused in your app.
Each month you’re an Amex Platinum Card member, you’ll receive $15 in Uber Cash for rides in the US. This is increased to $20 each December.
To get your Uber Cash, add The Platinum Card® from American Express as a payment method in your Uber account. The Uber Cash will be added to your Uber app every month.

The Platinum Card® from American Express
Uber credits can help offset some costs of The Platinum Card® from American Express and give you cheaper fares. As an Amex Platinum Card cardholder, you’ll receive your Uber Cash monthly — just make sure to add your card to the app.

Why are my American Express Uber credits not showing up?
Uber introduced Uber Cash in September 2018, so credits aren’t applied to your card statement anymore. Instead, they’re transferred to your Uber account, and you must spend them as Uber Cash.
What if I don’t have enough Uber Cash to cover my fare?
According to Uber, you’ll have the option to buy enough Uber Cash to cover your fare.
How do I use general travel credits for Uber rides?
With cards that offer general travel credits, simply use your card to pay for your Uber fare. Typically, your card provider will automatically apply your travel credits on your statement.
As an Amex Platinum Card member, you’ll receive monthly Uber credits. These come in the form of Uber Cash inside the app, which you can then apply toward your Uber rides for reduced fares. By simply connecting your card to your Uber account, you can earn enough Uber credits to offset the cost of an Uber ride, or even get a no-cost fare.
