What to watch out for
The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card has an annual fee of $95.
Foreign transaction fees.
Despite the travel benefits you get with this card, try to refrain from making unnecessary purchases when traveling abroad, as you’ll pay a 2.7% fee for every transaction.
Not widely accepted overseas.
Amex cards aren’t as widely accepted overseas as Visa or Mastercard.
High late payment fees.
Making late or returned payments could saddle you with fees as high as $38. You could also get stuck with a penalty APR of 29.99% variable.
Limited window to make balance transfers.
To take advantage of the 0% intro APR on balance transfers for 12 months, you need to transfer your balances within the first 60 days of opening your account. Keep in mind that you’re only able to make a balance transfer of up to $7,500 or 75% of your credit limit, whichever is smaller. Remember, the APR reverts to 15.24% to 25.24% variable after the intro period.
