The primary benefit of a 2% cashback credit card over a 3% or 5% business card is the steady value it generates. While other cashback cards can generate more value on purchases in select categories, a 2% business card will earn you an accelerated amount on all purchases year round.

Other 2% reward business cards

How to choose 2% cashback business credit cards

With only two cards to choose from, the card you pick will ultimately come down to the major differences between them and your business spending needs:

  • Spending cap. If you spend more than $50,000 in business expenses each year, the Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business is going to provide more value since it doesn’t have a spending cap.
  • Signup bonus. Of the two 2% cashback business credit cards, only the Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business provides a signup bonus. At a $500 offer, this value is higher than average and can provide some nice financial support if you need to invest in your business within the first few months of account opening.
  • Intro APR. If you need to make a large number of business purchases to grow your business and need time to pay it off interest-free, the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card is the pick. It offers a 12 months 0% intro APR on purchases, reverting to 17.49% to 25.49% variable. The Capital One offering, on the other hand, doesn’t offer an intro APR. (Terms apply, see rates & fees).
  • Annual fee. The Capital One® Spark® Cash for Business will run you $95 annually after the intro year ends, while the American Express Blue Business Cash™ Card carries no annual fee. Though $95 isn’t hugely expensive, it does cut into your reward earnings.

Should I get a 2% cashback business credit card?

Yes, provided your business doesn’t spend overwhelmingly in a single category, such as travel, office supplies or dining. The 2% cashback rate on these cards is excellent for year-round value on all purchases and is quite rare even among personal cards.

If your business spending heavily skews toward certain categories, however — particularly travel — there are other business card options available that may generate more cash back or rewards for your spending. Compare your business card options to get an idea of what’s available for your business needs.

2% cashback business credit card pairings

If you have space in your wallet for more than one business credit card, you can pick up a complementary business rewards card to maximize your rewards. The principle is straightforward:

  • Use a 3% or 5% business rewards card on the eligible spending categories you spend in most each year.
  • Use your 2% cashback business credit card to earn elevated rewards on all other spending.

With this method, you’re always earning the most cash back or reward points possible on a given purchase.

Bottom line

A 2% cashback business credit card can help you obtain impressive rewards through normal business spending. Before settling on a card, compare other products based on multiple factors, such as annual fees and signup bonuses.

If you’re not sure a 2% cashback business credit card is right for you, compare other business cashback credit cards.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I get a business credit card that offers cash back?

Cash back is typically a simpler form of rewards, as you won’t have to redeem travel points or miles. You might also find that it’s easier to calculate the exact value you’ll get from your rewards earnings. Travel rewards often vary in value depending on what you redeem them for.

Should I get a cashback business card with an annual fee?

The key to deciding this is whether you’ll earn enough cash back to offset the annual fee. If you’re not a big spender, that answer might be no. But if your business spends heavily — especially in a card’s accelerated-rewards categories — you may find the card pays for itself many times over through its rewards.

Do 2% cashback business credit cards usually come with a lot of benefits?

You won’t usually find a large suite of benefits that you’d see with a product like a platinum business credit card. Instead, you’ll probably get features like extended warranties, monthly expense summaries and free employee cards.
