Our verdict

TotallyMoney offers totally free access to your TransUnion credit report and credit score, but is there a catch? Our review gives the lowdown.

TotallyMoney is one of a number of credit reference agencies looking to make credit reporting more accessible and affordable in the UK. With free-for-life credit reports, live credit scores and personalised updates, it's hard to argue that TotallyMoney offers one of the most competitive and customer-friendly credit reports on the market.

Of course, nothing truly comes for free, and TotallyMoney operates a commission-based broker model that means you'll be advertised credit products from other providers based on your credit score. While this may turn off some customers, it could equally be considered a handy additional feature for those looking to take out a loan or credit card, and unsure of their eligibility.

Pros

  • No monthly fee
  • Live credit score

Cons

  • No automated identity fraud warnings

What is TotallyMoney?

TotallyMoney is a free credit report and credit score service that uses data from the credit reference agency TransUnion. Unlike the major credit agencies, TotallyMoney offers these services for free, forever, and instead uses a commission-based model, where it gets money whenever you take out a loan or credit card TotallyMoney recommends to you.

How does a TotallyMoney credit report work?

Your TotallyMoney credit report records all your financial history over the last six years and uses this data to calculate your credit score. It offers live updates to your credit rating and score, as well as personalised updates that let you know when and why your credit score has changed.

You can access your TotallyMoney credit report online at any time, and also correct any errors or out-of-date information. As part of the TotallyMoney credit report service, it will also suggest financial products that you’re likely to be approved for based on your credit profile.

How do I get a TotallyMoney credit report?

You can get your free TotallyMoney credit report by applying through the TotallyMoney website. You’ll need to provide certain personal information, such as your name, address and relationship status as part of your application.

Once you’ve completed the application form, you’ll be able to access your credit report online via the TotallyMoney website.

Is TotallyMoney any good?

Unlike most credit reference agencies, TotallyMoney offers its credit reporting for free, and uses data from TransUnion, one of the three major CRAs in the UK. In return, it will recommend credit products to you and will receive a commission if you successfully apply for one of the suggested products.

This means TotallyMoney may be a good choice for anyone wanting access to their TransUnion credit report data, but who doesn’t want to pay the monthly fee associated with most credit report services. TotallyMoney also has positive customer reviews according to review platforms such as TrustPilot and Google reviews.

How much does TotallyMoney cost?

TotallyMoney is totally free to use, and you’ll never need to pay for access to your credit report or credit score. Instead of charging for its report, TotallyMoney also acts as a credit broker, offering credit products from other lenders that are selected based on your credit score.

TotallyMoney customer reviews

TotallyMoney currently has positive reviews from customers, according to review platform TrustPilot and Google reviews (updated on 25 August 2020). TotallyMoney currently has an “excellent” rating on TrustPilot, based on around 4,000 customer reviews, with many customers agreeing that the TotallyMoney service is informative and easy-to-use. Customers also suggested that it was helpful for improving their credit score. However, others cited issues with out-of-date information on their credit file.

Does using TotallyMoney affect my credit score?

No, accessing your TotallyMoney credit report has no impact on your credit score, and you’re free to do so as often as you want.

How do I cancel my TotallyMoney account?

You can close your TotallyMoney credit report account by logging in to the website, and clicking on “My Details”. You can then cancel your account by selecting “Close My Account”.

How do I improve my credit score?

If your credit report or credit score is lower than you’d like it to be, there are a couple of things you can do to help improve it, including:

  • Paying your bills on time
  • Closing any unused credit accounts, such as old credit cards or bank accounts
  • Registering on the electoral roll and making sure your address is up to date
  • Regularly checking your credit report for any errors
