iCarhireinsurance.com rental car excess insurance review
See if excess insurance cover is right for you before your next road trip.
Whether you need to hire a car to visit a relative or you’ve been planning a once-in-a-lifetime road trip abroad, it’s worth thinking about getting insurance that will cover your excess if you do ever need to make a claim. Most car hire companies will charge an excess and a typical excess could leave you hundreds of pounds out of pocket, if not more. Don’t just opt for car hire insurance with your car hire company as you could make big savings if you decide to search elsewhere.
iCarhireinsurance.com says it offers both European and worldwide insurance policies that will cover you for up to £6,000 worth of excess charges with zero excess to pay on a claim. It also says it will protect you against damage to tyres, windows, roof and undercarriage. If you were thinking about picking up your hire car and getting your car excess cover at the same time, this review might make you think again.

What is my excess?
Your excess is the amount of money you’re expected to pay if you have to make a claim on insurance. With hire cars, these excess costs can range from £500 right up to £1,500.
With a hire car excess insurance policy, you will be covered for any excess charges, as well as extra protection for your hire car.
A car hire excess insurance policy with iCarhireinsurance.com will mean you’ll pay zero excess if you need to make a claim.
What is the claims process for iCarhireinsurance.com?
Icarhireinsurance.com uses an online claims notification process. Although iCarhireinsurance.com’s policies are underwritten by Zurich Insurance plc, Allianz Global Assistance was a previous underwriter so you’ll need to check which insurer underwrites your own insurance policy. This can be found on your policy document.
Once you have this information, you can visit iCarhireinsurance.com where you will see the logos for each insurer; with each leading to an individual online claim form.
You’ll need the following documentation at hand in order to upload them into your claim form:
- Vehicle rental agreement
- Rental company’s damage report
- Invoices and receipts as proof of any amount you paid relating to your claim
- Police report, if applicable
It’s vital that you let your insurer know about a claim as soon as possible. Failure to do this could result in a delay or a rejected claim later on.
