Expert review

The TD Ameritrade Client Rewards Card is a cashback rewards card designed with Ameritrade brokerage clients in mind.

While your earnings are flat across all spending categories, its signup bonus and no annual fee make this a solid rewards card.

The perks

  • Signup bonus.
You’ll earn 10,000 bonus points if you spend $500 within the first 90 days of opening the account.
  • Redemption bonus.
Ameritrade clients receive an additional 10% value on their points when they redeem them into their Ameritrade accounts. That means brokerage clients choosing to put 50,000 points into their account will receive the equivalent of 55,000 points instead.

This card features no annual fee for cardholders.

You’ll also like…

So long as your account is open, your points remain active.
  • Visa Zero Liability.

What to watch out for

  • Average reward value.
If you’re not redeeming your points into your Ameritrade account, your reward points are worth about 1 cent per point when redeeming for travel, gift cards or cash back.
  • Average variable APR.
You could end up with a variable APR on purchases and balance transfers of 17.74%, 19.74% or 24.74% depending on your creditworthiness. This is a bit higher than the starting APRs for some of TD’s other credit cards.
  • High APR on cash advances.
TD attaches a sizable 26.99% variable APR on any cash advances you take out.
  • Poor reward flexibility.
You can only redeem your points as a statement by calling TD directly. You also can’t transfer your points to other rewards programs.
  • Modest perks.
If you don’t qualify for a Visa Signature version of the card, your card perks are limited to a few simple card protections and the ability to add your card to your digital wallet.
