But it can be a good pick even if you don’t travel much. That’s because you’ll earn 5x points at US restaurants, US supermarkets and US gas stations and 3x points on all other eligible purchases. You can quickly accumulate Hilton Honors™ Bonus Points to redeem all at once on a vacation or business trip. Hilton points are typically worth around 0.5 cents apiece — less than the industry average of 1 point for 1 cent — but you can collect a significant number of them through everyday spending.
Annual fee: None.
A $0 annual fee (see rates & fees) means it’s easy to keep the card long term. Also, you needn’t worry about earning enough points to make the card worth paying for.
This is the only Hilton Honors American Express Card that has no annual fee. Other versions come with annual fees that range from $95 to $450.
Welcome offer: 75,000 Hilton Honors American Express Card bonus Points.
After you spend $1,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months your account is open, you’ll earn 75,000 Hilton Honors American Express Card Bonus Points. Redeem points for hotel stays and rewards in travel, dining, shopping and more.
Using the industry’s standard redemption value of 1 cent for every point, 75,000 points typically is $750. But Hilton Honors American Express Card Bonus Points tend to be worth much less than that — often around 0.5 cents a point. Given that rate, 75,000 points are worth around $375. That’s still a decent welcome offer, considering it’s easy to earn and the card has no annual fee.

What to watch out for
Not as widely accepted overseas.
Because the Hilton Honors American Express Card is an American Express card, you might not have as many opportunities to use it overseas as you would with a Visa or Mastercard.
If you make a late or returned payment, American Express may apply a 29.24% variable APR to all of your balances. This is known as a penalty APR, which could apply to your account for six months or more. (See rates & fees.)
It hurts to pay late.

What should I know before I apply?
To apply for the Hilton Honors American Express Card, you must be:
- At least 18 years old.
- A US citizen or permanent resident.
What credit score do I need?
You’ll have a better chance of approval for the Hilton Honors American Express Card if you apply with a good to excellent credit score of 670 or higher.
What’s my likelihood of being approved?
If you have a good credit score and a relatively high annual income, you may be the type of customer American Express is looking for.
Here are a few other factors that might affect your odds of approval:
- The number of hard pulls on your credit report. If you have several hard inquiries — or hard pulls — on your account, it might make you look desperate for credit. This implies you’re having trouble managing your debt, and American Express may be less likely to take you on as a customer.
- Factors that tie into your credit score. Credit utilization is a major factor that American Express considers. Providers prefer customers who have low balances relative to their credit limits. Having many new card accounts may be a red flag too, as it may indicate you’re desperate for credit. It may also give the impression that you’re a flighty customer who’s just hunting for welcome offers.
