Recognizing the best platforms for buying, trading and investing in crypto in the US
The Finder Crypto Trading Platform Awards 2022 program recognizes the best platforms for investing in crypto in the United States.
Finder’s data scientists and cryptocurrency experts ran the numbers and scored participating crypto trading platforms on a comprehensive list of 55 criteria.
The platform with the highest score across the board was named the winner, with the products that scored second and third highest each receiving a “Highly Commended” award. Here are the winners for 2022:
Best Crypto Exchange – Overall: Kraken
Kraken scored highest in a number of categories, including beginner-friendly features and value for money, securing its place as our overall winner.
Established in 2011, the feature-rich exchange has been a go-to trading platform for new and experienced crypto investors ever since.
Best Crypto Exchange – Altcoin trading: Crypto.com
When it comes to the breadth of assets users can trade, Crypto.com really shines with support for buying, selling and trading 250+ coins with strong liquidity.
Zero-fee USD wallet deposits provide an added bonus for those looking to explore the market beyond Bitcoin.
Kraken lets customers buy and sell cryptocurrency without breaking the bank.
Its support for Bitcoin’s Lightning Network helps unlock low BTC trading fees, while zero account fees also helped make this global exchange really stand out. We also like that you can get started with US$10 or less.
Kraken won the most beginner-friendly crypto trading platform because of its easy-to-use interface, highly-rated mobile app and informative guides.
Plus, the platform’s round-the-clock customer support staff is great for helping to guide newbies through their first experiences buying and selling cryptocurrency.
Best Crypto Exchange – Advanced Features: Crypto.com
The top scoring platform in our advanced features category, Crypto.com lets customers go beyond making basic trades with support for crypto staking, lending and borrowing.
It even offers a free crypto-linked debit card—the first of its kind in the world.
eToro received top marks across almost all aspects of the broker category, but it really excelled due to its advanced features.
The “social” trading platform is best known for its CopyTrader feature, where users can connect with and copy other crypto traders—giving first-timers a glimpse of what moves experienced investors are making.
Here’s how our expert analysts assessed US crypto trading platforms to pick the 2022 winner.
Selection criteria
We conducted an extensive market review of the US cryptocurrency market and contacted 49 cryptocurrency exchanges and brokers in June/July 2022 to participate in the awards program. Any platforms that didn’t complete the information form were not included in the final analysis.
All platforms included were required to be registered with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) to be considered for an award.
The awards for “Best Cryptocurrency Exchange – Overall” and “Best Crypto Trading Platform – Broker” were given to the business that had the highest average score across the 4 following categories, each contributing 25% of the score for the overall winner:
