  • No annual fee or first-year fee waived. HSBC’s cards are mostly split between no-annual-fee products and cards that waive your first year’s annual fee. For the latter, you’ll pay an annual fee starting the second year if you don’t have a qualifying US HSBC Premier checking account.

  • Penalty APR. For most of its cards, HSBC may apply a penalty APR of around 31% variable to all balances if you make a late payment.

How does HSBC keep my credit card information secure?

HSBC guarantees you’ll never be liable for unauthorized transactions. If you report fraudulent activity on your account, HSBC may start blocking certain transactions more aggressively. It may also temporarily suspend or close your account. If HSBC closes your account, it will give you a new account number.

When you log in to your HSBC account, the bank will encrypt the data you transmit. With encryption software, your information is scrambled so third parties can’t read it.

HSBC uses network firewalls to prevent unauthorized users from accessing its private network. Additionally, it uses digital certificates so you can confirm you’re accessing the legitimate HSBC website.

Bottom line

HSBC offers strong low intro APR, cashback and travel cards. Most cards even offer rewards, signup bonuses and no foreign transaction fees.
