How to apply for a Barclaycard card

Apply for a Barclaycard credit card through its site. Before you apply, check that you meet the eligibility requirements and prepare the required information.

Eligibility criteria

  • You’re at least 18 years old.
  • You’re a resident of the US, but excluding Puerto Rico and US territories.

Information you’ll need

To complete the application, you’ll need to provide information that includes:

  • Your name and residential address.
  • Your Social Security number.
  • Your email address, phone number and date of birth.
  • Financial information like your annual income and income source.

Application restrictions

Barclaycard has one application restriction: You can’t have two cards of the same type. For example, you can have only one JetBlue card or one Wyndham Rewards card. Make sure you choose the one card that makes the most sense for your situation.

How many Barclaycard cards can I have?

Barclaycard doesn’t limit the number of credit cards you can have, unlike some other providers. You can have as many Barclaycard cards as you can get an approval for.

How to choose Barclaycard credit cards

Because of the many credit card choices available from this provider, here’s what to consider to get the right card for your needs:

  • Reward program. Find the card that rewards you the most on your purchases. You can get cobranded airline, hotel and cruise line credit cards, or you can save for college with the Upromise card. You also have other options available.
  • Signup bonus. Most no-annual-fee Barclaycard cards come with a signup bonus, just it’s not as generous as the cards’ with an annual fee. To get the highest bonuses, expect to pay an annual fee.
  • Annual fee. You get to earn a higher signup bonus and better rewards on your purchases if you get a card with an annual fee. Sometimes, though, a no-annual-fee card may better suit your spending patterns.

Types of Barclaycard credit cards

Barclaycard credit cards are primarily travel cards, with over 20 to choose from. However, these cards often have other features to consider.

Standout benefits of a Barclaycard card

  • Mostly reward cards. Almost every Barclaycard product is a rewards card. This is one reason the provider typically looks for customers with strong credit.
  • Wide variety of travel options. Barclaycard offers more travel cards than perhaps any other provider. This includes more niche travel card offerings, such as resort credit cards and cruise credit cards.
  • Signup bonuses. Similar to how most Barclaycards offer rewards, you’ll usually find a signup bonus with each card. For the best bonuses, look at Barclaycard’s general travel cards.
  • Cobranded offerings. Barclaycard offers a variety of unusual cobranded cards, including cards for the NFL.

Alternatives to Barclaycard credit cards

A Barclaycard product can be a great choice if you’re looking for a strong travel card. But if you’re looking for a more diverse card lineup or a juicier rewards program, Chase, American Express and Capital One are all great alternatives. Or if you want a more straightforward cashback card, Citi has you covered.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a premium Barclaycard credit card?
If you’re looking for a The Platinum Card® from American Express or Chase Sapphire Reserve® rival, you won’t find it with Barclaycard.

How does Barclaycard keep my information secure?
Barclaycard uses many of the standard security measures in the credit card space, including Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) technology, 24/7 fraud monitoring and alerts, and EMV chip technology.

How do I cancel my Barclays card?

      Avatarfinder Customer Care
      JhezAugust 21, 2019Staff

      Hi Charles,

      Thank you for your comment.

There are two ways to cancel the card, online and by phone.
      – For cancellation online, please log in to your online account, then go to the message center. Please click Contact Us and send a message to Barclaycard’s support under the Account closure message topic.
      – For cancellation through phone, you can call a customer service representative. Their customer service number is found at the back of the card.

Please also refer to our guide on how to cancel a Barclaycard credit card. Hope this helps.

      Regards,
      Jhezelyn

      Hi Alisha,

      Thanks for your question.

We don’t have a list of credit cards available for those under 18, but we have a credit card guide for teens where you can check your alternative options.

      Cheers,
      Anndy
