How does Brigit work?

Brigit is an app that allows you to request a pay advance when you’re in danger of overdrafting your bank account. It connects to your bank account, analyzes your expenses and notifies you when you’re running low on funds. At this point, it offers you a personalized advance to cover you until your next payday.

You can even enable automatic advances if you don’t have time to think about your finances. If you’re running low, Brigit automatically deposits the money you need into your bank account.

  • Maximum withdrawal: $250
  • Cost: $9.99 monthly membership fee
  • Turnaround: Up to two business days

How long does it take Brigit to deposit money?

One to two business days.

How repayments work with Brigit

Brigit automates its repayment process to keep things easy. You’ll be notified 24 hours before your due date, and your payment is automatically deducted from your bank account. There are no fees or interest charges. And if you run into trouble, Brigit allows you to extend your due date to avoid overdrafting your account.

It takes two to three business days for Brigit to process your payment. After that, you’ll be notified by text that your payment has gone through. At this point, you’re free to take out another advance whenever you need it.

How much does it cost to use Brigit?

Brigit charges a $9.99 monthly membership fee to take out an advance. You won’t have to pay any interest, and even if you can’t make a payment, you won’t be on the hook for any late fees. These are two features that set Brigit apart from other short-term lenders.

What are the pros and cons of Brigit?

Pros

  • Due date extensions available. Struggling to repay your advance? Brigit allows you to extend your due date up to three times.
  • Overdraft predictions. When you connect Brigit to your bank account, it analyzes your spending habits and sends notifications when you’re at risk of overdrafting.
  • No interest or late fees. You won’t pay interest on any advance you take out, nor will you be on the hook for late fees.

Cons

  • Customer support only through email. If you need to get in touch with Brigit to solve an account issue or answer a question, you’ll can only contact its staff through email — and it could take two business days to get a response.
  • Monthly fee. Unlike some pay advance apps that only require you to tip, Brigit charges a $9.99 monthly membership fee — even if you don’t need a pay advance that month.
  • No joint bank accounts. You need to have an individual checking account that’s at least 60 days old and receives direct deposits to qualify for Brigit.

Is Brigit safe to use?

In general, yes — though no app can guarantee your information stays 100% safe. Brigit does its part by using a secure 256-bit encryption system to protect your personal and banking data. And unlike many payday lenders, you don’t need to provide your Social Security number to sign up.

Beyond its security system, its privacy policy outlines what kinds of information it collects, how it’s used and whether it’s shared. If you decide you no longer want to use Brigit, its privacy policy also explains what information is deleted and what is retained.

What are users saying about Brigit?

Brigit may not have a Better Business Bureau or Trustpilot page, but it does have thousands of positive reviews on the App Store and Google Play. It earns 4.8 out of 5 stars based on nearly 11,000 iPhone customers and a 4.2-out-of-5-star rating from over 2,000 Android users.

While some reviewers had issues connecting their bank accounts or getting answers back from Brigit’s customer service team, most praised the company for how easy it was to take out an advance. And even more loved Brigit’s predictive technology that helped them avoid overdraft fees.

Why does Brigit ask for $3000 of income?

      Hi Shanella,

Thanks for reaching out to Finder.

While Brigit did not provide any explanation as to why they require an income of $3000, generally, having a specific income requirement is a way for lenders to ensure their borrowers have the capacity to repay their loan/cash advance.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Charisee

      Hi Dorkas,

      Thank you for your comment.

I am sorry to inform you that advance pay apps does not provide services to pensions and disability pay. An applicant must be gainfully employed and should be working regular hours. Outlined on this page are the eligibility criteria for the advance pay apps.

Please note that some apps may also require you to work for a specific employer or make a minimum amount of money each month to qualify.

      Regards,

What happens if I don’t pay them back? Will it effect my credit score ?

      Hello Runny,

      Thank you for your comment.

Yes, it will definitely affect your credit score. Defaulting happens when you can’t pay back your loans on time. This can cause your credit score to plummet, your wages to be garnished and future loans to have high interest rates.

You may refer to our article on what could happen if you don’t pay back your payday loan here.

What happens if you do not pay Brigit back?

      Hi Maire,

Thank you for getting in touch with Finder.

With Brigit, if you cannot repay on your due date, you can extend it using an extension credit. Please note that Brigit connects to your bank account and once you default payment with them they will keep on trying to deduct the amount a few more times. Each time the payment is returned for insufficient funds, your bank will charge an insufficient funds fee which might put you into deeper debt with your bank and at the same time Brigit is trying to collect payment for your loan.

      I hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!

      Cheers,
      Jeni

      Hi Nakasha,

Thank you for getting in touch with Finder.

Brigit works with over 6,000 banks and credit unions. If you find Greenville Federal credit union on its app then Brigit pay accepts the said institution. If your bank does not appear, Brigit does not support that bank.

      I hope this helps.

Thank you and have a wonderful day!
