What is Aventura?

Aventura is CIBC’s frequent flyer program, competing with other popular programs like Aeroplan (Air Canada), Avion (RBC) and AIR MILES. The only way to earn Aventura Points is by using a CIBC Aventura credit card.

CIBC has a number of basic and premium credit cards for personal and business use that let you earn Aventura Rewards Points. Annual fees, interest rates, perks, and points earn rates differ between cards, but you can earn between 0.5 and 3 points per dollar spent.

Among the downsides of the CIBC Aventura Rewards program is that you can’t earn points without a credit card and the retail network for redeeming points isn’t very large.

However, you can purchase items or experiences with an Aventura credit card and login to CIBC Online Banking to redeem points to pay for your purchase (non-posted transactions only). This sidesteps the limitations of the program and lets you redeem Aventura Points for just about anything.

Bottom line

Visit the CIBC Rewards Centre to redeem Aventura Points for travel, merch and experiences. Or login to CIBC Online Banking to use Aventura points to pay down your credit card, mortgage, or personal loan or contribute to other CIBC financial accounts.

CIBC Aventura Points are worth the most when redeemed for flights and travel. But you might get more flexibility and perks with other travel rewards credit cards. Compare your options to rack up travel points and get one step closer to your dream vacation.
