What are Marble cards?
Marble.Cards is a URL-based digital trading card game. Any user can create or “marble” any web page as a card, so long as it has not already been marbled. Each web page can only be marbled once. Each card is a non-fungible token (NFT) built on the Ethereum blockchain.
Users can buy Marble cards once they’re created, but if nobody buys a new card then it becomes the property of the original creator. Players can do a couple of things with their cards, they can battle them in the arena and cast votes.
Arenas and voting
Arenas have a variety of competition fields divided into hashtags such as #Memes, #Funny and #YouTube for example. Users vote on their favourite cards in a given category, choosing between 2 cards. You cannot vote for your own cards within the arena.
However, you can see your own cards and how they are stacking up against other cards in the arena. Other players vote on the performance of your cards against other cards. Cards you have submitted to the arena will accumulate the platform currency, Memecoin, in addition to experience points and badges.
Where can I buy Marble cards?
In order to buy Marble cards you first need a cryptocurrency wallet such as MetaMask. Once you have that set up, you can buy Marble cards on either OpenSea or the Marble.Cards marketplace. The best way to buy Marble cards is by using Marblecoin on the Marble.Cards platform, as this platform is free of gas fees. You can deposit Marblecoin either from an external wallet, or buy Marblecoin from the Marble.Cards platform directly.
Buying cards on the marketplace is a little different than one might expect. Cards are created by entering a valid URL on the creation page and checking if it’s not already been marbled. After confirming that the URL is available, there is a fee for registering the card. Pay the fee and a public Dutch auction begins to claim the card. The creator is awarded a fee of 30% of the selling value. If there are no buyers, then once the auction ends the card is awarded to the creator free of charge. As the creator, you can also purchase your own card with a 30% discount instead of receiving the creator’s fee.
What are NFTs in Marble cards?
An NFT is a non-fungible token. They are digital collectibles that feature a kind of “deed of ownership” in the form of a token on a blockchain, rather than a paper document. This “deed” in the blockchain acts as a method of verification that no other copy of the NFT will have. So in the case of Marble cards, the unique url attached to the Marble card is only ever “tokenised” once.
What makes Marble cards unique?
There are a lot of features that make Marble cards unique. Marble.Cards is a platform for any url you can find on the web. Marble cards go beyond just images and create a unique token for something you’d like to own a collectable of, rather than a screenshot that ends up unsorted in a deeply buried folder or on a storage cloud.
Marble cards capture sentimental times of digital life. As the digital space grows, more and more of what goes on in the Internet might mean something to people, maybe yourself. The Marble.Cards platform offers a method of saving that forever on a blockchain and earning cryptocurrency for doing it.
Finally, Marble cards offer a catalogue or a scrapbook of some of the Internet’s widest recognised media such as memes and videos. Participation in the Marble.Cards platform will enrich and familiarise a user with knowledge of Internet culture and digital events of the past and present. If you tire of the collection then you can sell it to a new collector.
What is Memecoin (MEM)?
Memecoin (MEM) is the associated token of Marble cards and Meme.com. Not to be confused with Marblecoin (MBC), which is used in-game and offers some exclusive exchange rates, such as no gas fees on Marble cards purchases made with Marblecoin. Certain features are only accessible with Marblecoin.
MEM can currently be used on the Marble.Cards platform as well as on Meme.com, with additional functionalities on the way. Currently, you can create and modify cards with MEM, in addition to trading it and exchanging it. MEM can be earned in-game through voting and battling in the arena.
What makes different Marble cards rare?
Marble cards are not all created equal. There are a number of factors that determine the rarity of a given card. There are many kinds of rarity that lie between a number of categories: genesis, origin, edition, phoenix and gold. In addition to these rarities, Marble cards individually have an associated level with each card, a generation (GEN) number, and a collection ID.
Genesis
Genesis cards are part of the very first cards created on the platform. There are only 33 of them and no more will be created.
Origin
Origin cards are also part of the first cards, but they came after the Genesis run. There are 966 of them.
Edition
Edition cards are not generated by an algorithm, but are part of a series created by partnered artists.
Gold
Gold cards are obtained at random when any user creates a card. The collection ID number is a factor in the calculation of whether or not a card is generated as gold. For example, within ID numbers 1-100, 25% of them are gold cards. Between ID numbers 101-1,000, only 5% are gold cards. Only a few cards in a collection will be generated with gold rarity.
Phoenix
Phoenix cards are the first cards created on the Polygon blockchain. ETH gas costs were so high initially, that Marble cards developers decided to make use of the Phoenix chain to become profitable. There are 330 Phoenix cards.
Levelling up cards
Marble cards can be levelled up through enhancement. At level 50 for example, the owner of a card can apply an animated GIF image as its icon, rather than a still image. Higher level cards are more valuable, as players have invested Marblecoin or Memecoin into levelling the card up.
Generation (GEN) and collection ID
At the time of writing, there are 3 generations of Marble cards. Each generation, or GEN, spans a series of collection IDs. They are as follows:
- GEN0 = Card ID 1 – 24,999
- GEN1 = Card ID 25,000 – 99,999
- GEN2 = Card ID 100,000 and higher
Every card generated has a unique collection ID. When a new domain is permitted to be created as Marble cards, it’s in the interest of users to create as many cards as possible, as collection ID is a factor when generating a gold rarity card. The lower the collection ID, the more likely you are to print a gold card.
Marble cards overview
Overall, Marble cards are a unique NFT collection that allows users to collect anything on the web that interests them. It’s all user generated through the use of printing links as cards, so the platform lends itself well to user input, rather than buying a virtual painting from your favourite artist. You can enter your Marble cards in the arena to earn Memecoin and XP, and vote on other users’ Marble cards as well. Each card has a number of factors that make it rare or valuable ranging from series, level and other rarity factors.
