Vancity credit cards
Vancity offers three main types of cards to BC residents: fee-free rewards cards, personal/business rewards cards and low-interest cards. One feature that cuts across all types is that a 5% of profits go to supporting the Vancity enviroFund program. Visa is the only type of card on offer, so you might need to look elsewhere if you’re in the market for a MasterCard or American Express.
enviro Classic Visa Card
The enviro Classic Visa Card lets you earn one point for every two dollars you spend on regular purchases, in addition to one point per dollar when you book travel through the Vancity Rewards program.
This card doesn’t charge an annual fee and comes with travel accident insurance up to $200,000, extended warranty coverage and purchase security coverage.
No annual fee. Pay zero fees to rack up Vancity rewards points.
Insurance options. Get purchase protection, warranty coverage and travel insurance when you shop with your card.
Flexible points. Use points for cashback, travel discounts, gift cards and charitable donations.
Low return. You need to spend at least $200 to earn one dollar in rewards
BC residents only. You can only qualify for this card if you’re a BC resident and are at least 19 years old.
enviro Classic Visa Low-Interest Card
You won’t collect rewards or qualify for additional benefits with this card, but the relatively low interest rate on purchases is a big draw for customers compared to other cards on the market. You’ll also pay a much smaller annual fee than with most other Vancity cards. Consider this card if you’re looking to finance a large purchase or you have trouble paying off your balance in full every month.
Reasonable fee. The annual fee for this card is less than what you’d pay with most other Vancity cards.
Basic insurance. Benefit from purchase and warranty protection, as well as bare-bones travel accident insurance.
Free additional cards. You can add up to four additional cards at no extra cost.
No rewards. You won’t earn points or cashback on purchases.
Only in BC. This card is only available to residents of British Columbia.
Few benefits. It’s a fairly basic card, so you won’t be able to take advantage of many extras.
enviro Gold Visa card with Vancity Rewards Accelerator
This card comes with a high fee but offers more rewards points for every dollar you spend, along with a welcome bonus and bonus points every year on your card’s anniversary. You’ll also earn additional the points when you book travel through the Vancity rewards program.
You’ll also get access to extra benefits including travel insurance – with coverage for accidents, auto rental theft/collision, delayed/lost baggage and more – as well as extended warranty/purchase protection on all purchases made with your card.
More points. This card offers an “accelerator program” that allows you to earn more points on every dollar and earn bonus points as soon as you make your first purchase
Rewards for customer loyalty. Rack up thousands of extra bonus points each year on the date you signed up for the card.
Comprehensive insurance. Benefit from comprehensive travel insurance as well as purchase and warranty protection.
High fee. The fee for this card is higher than the fee on offer for similar cards.
Low value. Your points aren’t worth as much as with other credit card providers.
Only in BC. This card is only available to residents of British Columbia.

For cashback, you can sign into your online banking to see how much you’ve earned and request to apply amounts onto your next bank statement. To redeem points for all other categories, you need to sign on to your rewards account at www.rewards.vancity.com.

How does Vancity keep my credit card information safe?
Vancity provides enhanced protection for your card by asking for a PIN when you make purchases. They also have fraud detection software that can signal when there’s suspicious activity on your account.
Vancity has a nice selection of cards and a reasonable return on points (although not the highest you can get). It offers no fee and low-interest cards, as well as personal and business cards with a higher fee and return on points.
