MBNA offer a wide range of credit cards that suit unique spending habits and personal interests. Depending on the type of credit card you choose, you can pay zero annual fees or low interest rates, earn travel rewards, be rewarded for your spending with cashback or points, or enjoy complimentary extras like travel insurance.

Types of MBNA credit cards available

MBNA offer a variety of different credit cards that suit all types of financial situations and spending habits. Here’s a summary of each of the main types of MBNA credit cards that are offered:

  • Balance Transfer credit cards

Get an introductory low interest rate for a specified time period and move your existing credit card balances to your new balance transfer credit card.

  • Low Rate credit cards

If you’re looking for an on-going low purchase interest rate, a low rate card could be the right choice. While you typically won’t earn as many rewards points or cash back, you can save money on interest rates if you often don’t pay down your credit card balance on time.

  • No Annual Fee credit cards

Some of the credit cards offered at MBNA have no annual fees. These cards vary in terms of rewards and perks, however they typically come with complimentary travel insurance, rental car coverage and purchase protection and warranty coverage.

  • Rewards credit cards

Earn rewards points on everyday purchases and redeem them for flights, travel services or merchandise. With plenty of rewards cards on offer, you can select a card that offers rewards you want to redeem.

  • Cashback credit cards

Spend on your card and earn cashback on everyday purchases, including gas and groceries. Redeem your cashback whenever you want. These cards typically come with signup offers which can accerlate your earn rate for a few months.

  • Travel Rewards credit cards

Earn points toward hotel stays, gift cards, dining and more. Travel cards typically come with bonus point welcome offers, travel related perks and security features to protect you while you spend around the world.

  • Retail and Store credit cards

MBNA offer cards associated with Harley-Davidson, Amazon.ca and Melaleuca. Enjoy welcome offers and earn bonus points or loyalty dollars. Retail and store cards typically come with no annual fees.

MBNA use a variety of methods to protect you from fraud including the use of encryption technology and real-time fraud detection. This means that you will be notified immediately if there is any unusual activity on your account.

How to apply for an MBNA credit card

Before you get started on your application, you should make sure that you meet the eligibility requirements for the specific credit card that you’re interested in. Eligibility requirements can vary between credit cards, but generally include the following:

  • Your age. You should be the age of majority in your province or territory (18 or 19 years old).
  • Your residency status. You typically need to be a Canadian resident to apply for a Canadian credit card.
  • Your credit history. Most credit cards will require you to have good to excellent credit of 650 or higher, while some may accept fair to poor credit, depending on the specific credit card.

Information you will need for your application

After checking that you’re eligible for the credit card, you’ll need to gather the following information in order to proceed with the application process:

  • Personal information. You’ll need to provide personal information such as your address and your contact information. You’ll also need to verify your identity by providing an accepted form of identification, such as your driver’s licence number or passport number.
  • Financial information. You will need information about your current employment, income and assets like shares or property and your employer’s contact details. If you are self-employed, you may need to provide information regarding your expenses, liabilities and your accountant’s contact information.
