How to invest in the BTCX Bitcoin ETF

To buy the BTCX ETF, you'll first need to sign up to a broker with access to the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF (TSX:BTCX) has officially launched on Canada’s Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX). This means you can now buy units in the ETF through a global stock broker or online share trading platform.

How to buy the BTCX ETF

  1. Compare online brokers. To invest in exchange traded funds (ETFs), you’ll need to sign up to an ETF broker platform. Our table below can help you choose.
  2. Open and fund your brokerage account. Complete an application with your personal and financial details, such as your ID and SIN number. Fund your account with a bank transfer, PayPal or debit card.
  3. Search for the CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF. Find the ETF by name or ticker symbol: BTCX. Research its history to confirm it’s a solid investment against your financial goals.
  4. Purchase now or later. Buy today with a market order or use a limit order to delay your purchase until the CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF reaches your desired price. To spread out your risk, look into dollar-cost averaging, which smooths out buying at consistent intervals and amounts.
  5. Decide on how many to buy. At today’s price, weigh your budget against a diversified portfolio that can minimize risk through the market’s ups and downs.

What we know about BTCX ETF

The CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF (“BTCX”) began trading on March 9th, 2021 on the TSX. Launched by CI Global Asset Management in partnership with Galaxy Fund Management, the fund provides an additional way to invest in bitcoin.

According to the press release on CI’s website, the CI Galaxy Bitcoin ETF has the lowest management fee of any bitcoin ETF and the lowest published MER cap at 0.95%. It trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the tickers BTCX.B (Canadian dollar denominated) and BTCX.U (US dollar denominated).
