TapTap Send
Fees (Pay by Bank Transfer)
From $0

Our verdict

Taptap Send offers a user-friendly mobile app and competitive exchange rates to some destinations, but whether it's right for you depends on where you need to send money.

We downloaded and tested 19 money transfer apps to try to find out which app offers the best value and the best user experience. Taptap Send was one of those apps, and it impressed us with its fast transfers, its easy-to-use app and its decent global coverage.

We found that Taptap Send offers competitive exchange rates and fees to some destinations, India among them. But exchange rate markups are higher to certain destinations, while transfers to some countries also incur a flat fee—which can work out to be quite expensive if you're only sending a small amount.

So Taptap Send is a top contender some of the time, but it always pays to compare your options.

What are Taptap Send’s transfer fees?

Fees apply to some Taptap Send transfers, but there is no flat fee across the board.

For several popular transfer destinations such as India and the United States, no transfer fees apply. But transfers to some destinations incur a flat fee, typically ranging from around $1 to $7. The Philippines, Mexico, Bangladesh and Bolivia are just some of the destinations where fees apply.

Taptap Send also makes money on the exchange rate markup. This is the difference between the exchange rate Taptap Send gets from its partners and the rate it offers to customers, and we found that the markup varies depending on where you’re sending money.

Testing the Taptap Send app to see how much it really charges

To get an idea of how Taptap Send compares in the real world, we ran several test transfer scenarios from Canada to India and Ukraine. Straight away, Taptap Send lost points for not supporting transfers to Ukraine.

As for India, regardless of whether we wanted to send $200 or $1,000, Taptap Send’s exchange rate markup was 0.70% at the time of the test, and there were no transfer fees. This makes it one of the cheapest options for sending money to India, though a couple of providers did have lower transaction costs.

To give you an idea of how that stacks up against the competition, for a $200 send to India paid for with a debit card, Remitly had a total cost of 2.46%, and Sendwave had a cost of 1.25%. Meanwhile, Pesa’s was 0.53%, while Paysend’s was 0.39%.
